Blue Bombers LS Mike Benson Is Staying Home

WINNIPEG, MB.,- – Today, The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced that the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with Canadian long-snapper Mike Benson. 

Benson who stands at 5’11 225 pounds Canadian long-snapper from Winnipeg will be returning for his second season with the Blue Bombers

Benson’s first look in the CFL was in 2012 with the Edmonton Elks. He spent 2013 on the club’s practice squad and was then signed by the B.C. Lions in August of 2014. He spent the subsequent five seasons in Vancouver, playing in 81 games. Benson then signed with Ottawa within the summertime of 2019 and dressed for five games for the RedBlacks that season.

He signed with the Montreal Alouettes as a free agent in 2020, but his agreement expired without him playing following the cancellation of the CFL season.

Benson’s first year with his hometown was one for the books, as he performed an intricate role in a dominant season capped off with a 108th Grey Cup Championship. As the club’s long-snapper and a reserve linebacker, Benson performed in all 14 regular-season games and both the Western Final and Grey Cup, capturing the first championship of his professional career.

A veteran in the CFL with eight years of experience, Benson played in his hundredth career against the B.C. Lions on October 23, 2022, and now has 103 has played in 103 regular-season games
