It had been well noted that Jeffcoat was going to test free agency this offseason.
So it is somewhat surprising that Jeffcoat said he was in shock due to silence from the Bombers.
“Yesterday I was really in shock,” is how he put it. “I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to move. I just wanted to sleep. I couldn’t. I just tried to process it all.””
Look, if you make it clear that you are going to test free agency, why are you expecting to hear much from the team you were on? Hey man, the ball is in your court. If you decide you do not like what free agency is offering then come back to the Bombers and let them know you want to talk. Otherwise expect silence.
If you personally have a bad experience with a service provider and tell them you are going to look at other options, do not expect them to throw you a bone. But if you communicate that you are open to offers, you might just get something. But that is not what Jeffcoat did. he told the Bombers he was going to test the market.
To now claim that he is disappointed is confusing. I guess free agency did not provide the value that he was looking for…but do not blame the Bombers for that.
“I don’t think it was handled right,” he said. “I understand it’s business, nothing personal. But in business there’s communication. And there wasn’t any communication, really.”
Sorry, I do not get that argument by Jeffcoat. It is like telling your girlfriend/boyfriend that you are taking a ‘break’ and then getting mad that they did not reach out to you.
However it transpired, and whatever went down, Jackson Jeffcoat will be remembered as a hard working defensive end that often paired up with Jefferson to wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks.
He will also be remembered as an integral part of the Bombers 2019 and 2020 team that won a Grey Cup.
The Bombers will have to find out how they want to replace Jeffcoat, something I imagine they have already given much thought to – after Jeffcoat said he would try free agency.
