This game will go a long way if Winnipeg wins to help the secures a playoff spot!
Full disclosure, I have not fact checked this.
Having said that, the West playoff picture is still wide open, and a win will go a long way for the Bombers.
However, they will be without some key players.
And then there is this news.
So how will the teams match up? All those that were listed as “Questionable” for Winnipeg appear to be playing.
When Streveler went down, there was some speculation that the Bombers would try and get Prukop. Obviously that did not happen. So it will be interesting to see if the Bombers were right to go out and get other quarterbacks or if Edmonton should have dealt Prukop.
What will be fun is watching the Ford brothers play against each other.
I have a brother, and I can tell you that whenever brothers play against each other in anything it gets competitive. But this will be even more so (read more about that here from TSN). With Winnipeg currently 7-6, and Edmonton sitting at 5-8, both teams want and need the win!
It seems that as Ford goes, so does Edmonton. He has provided a spark. He has provided some hope. And for good reason.
While Winnipeg holds the season series over BC, Saskatchewan, and Calgary, Winnipeg only plays Edmonton twice. So you can believe that both teams will be looking to put up as many points as possible – since the tie breaker may come down to that. With that, I expect both teams will be looking to score early, often, and even at the end of the game. Do not look for either team to take a knee near the end of the game.
For the Bombers to win here is what they will have to do:
Get to Ford early and often – a Ford vs Ford interception by the Bombers would be awesome!
Cover well down field – the Bombes have allowed some wide open long shots this season.
Keep the Edmonton running game to a minimum – Kevin Brown and Javon Leake must be limited.
Protect Zach – Early in the season the O-Line was suspect and we do not know who will be the backup, regardless of the depth chart.
Win the turnover battle.
Stay away from dummy penalties – Winnipeg simply cannot help Edmonton out that way.
Keep the Bomber D rolling – both in coverage, pressures, and blitzes.
Do not play down to your competition – Edmonton may have a lesser record, but they are certainly on the upswing.
Edmonton is coming off of a bye week, but so are the Bombers. In their last game, Edmonton crushed Calgary 37-16. We will be able to tell by the play calling what they scouting for each team found. And it is this time of year where you can think about ‘trick’ or ‘gadget’ plays.
If the Bombers do even most of those things it should be a great night for a Bomber win!
