Calgary Stampeders Boost Defense: Sign DB Tae Daley (Virginia Tech) and DL Jamal Hines (University of Toledo)

The Calgary Stampeders announced the addition of two key players to their roster on Friday. American defensive back Tae Daley and American defensive lineman Jamal Hines have been signed, bolstering the Stampeders’ defensive lineup ahead of the upcoming CFL season.

Tae Daley: Defensive Back

Daley, an American defensive back standing five-foot-eleven and weighing 201 pounds, boasts an impressive track record. After signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Daley took part in three preseason games, making 13 tackles.

His college career was equally impressive. Daley played his senior season at Virginia Tech, participating in 13 games and making ten starts as a safety. He racked up 73 tackles, including four tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble. Prior to his time at Virginia Tech, Daley spent three seasons at Vanderbilt, where he accumulated 108 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and defended three passes in 35 games.

Jamal Hines: Defensive Lineman

Hines, an American defensive lineman measuring six-foot-three and 250 pounds, comes to the Stampeders after a decorated career at the University of Toledo. Hines played 56 games and made 49 starts over five seasons with the Rockets, earning all-Mid-American Conference team honors four times.

His collegiate stats include 271 tackles, 120 solo stops, 21 sacks, four fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and 19 passes defended. Hines also managed three interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown against Eastern Michigan during the 2020 season.

While the Stampeders welcome Daley and Hines, they also announced the release of American defensive lineman George Obinna and National defensive lineman Andrew Seinet-Spaulding.
