Ex-CFL player Alex Bazzie has found himself in legal trouble following an incident in Charleston, W.V. Local law enforcement accused Bazzie of trying to break into a drive-thru ATM using a pickaxe and a tire iron early Saturday morning. Despite managing to open the machine’s outer casing, he was unable to access the internal safe. The failed attempt led to his arrest and a charge of entry of a building other than a dwelling, with bail set at $100,000. These allegations are yet to be proven in court.

CFL Career Highlights

Bazzie, hailing from Silver Springs, Md., has left a mark in the Canadian Football League over seven seasons. His journey began with the B.C. Lions in 2014, where the 6’1″, 228-pound player quickly became a star on defense. In his first three seasons, he tallied 29 sacks, peaking with 11 sacks in 2016 that earned him a West Division all-star selection. This performance opened doors for NFL opportunities, though stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and Arizona Cardinals did not pan out. Bazzie later returned to the CFL, playing for the Edmonton Elks and the Toronto Argonauts, before concluding his playing days with the Lions in 2021. Over 80 CFL games, Bazzie amassed 159 defensive tackles, 21 special teams tackles, 43 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Post-CFL Career and Current Situation

Following his CFL career, Bazzie transitioned into coaching, joining the University of Charleston’s coaching staff. However, following the recent incident, his profile has been removed from the Golden Eagles’ website. This arrest marks an unfortunate chapter for the athlete known for his on-field prowess and contributions to Canadian football. The case’s development will be closely monitored by both fans and former colleagues alike.
