Edmonton Elks Welcome Boris Bede

Boris Bede’s transition from Toronto Argonauts to Edmonton Elks was swift, with the kicker securing a two-year contract just a day after his release. This new chapter aligns him with past collaborators Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and McLeod Bethel-Thompson under the Elks’ banner.

A Season to Remember

The 34-year-old Toulon, France native had an exceptional stint with the Argonauts, particularly remarkable in the 2023 season. He showcased outstanding accuracy, converting 37-of-39 field goal attempts and leading the CFL in kickoff yards and average. This performance not only marked a career-best but also solidified his reputation as a reliable kicker.

Bede’s CFL Legacy

Entering 2024, Bede stands atop the CFL records for his kickoff average, both for a single season and across his career. His tenure in the league, spanning 128 games and featuring a field goal success rate of 83.6%, underscores his impact on the field. The Laval University alum’s prowess is not just in field goals but also evident in his punting record.

Geroy Simon, Elks assistant general manager, lauded Bede as a transformative presence on the field, capable of tilting game dynamics with his deep pins and clutch field goals. Starting his CFL journey with the Montreal Alouettes in 2015, Bede’s move to the Elks marks a promising addition to the team as they look to build on their roster’s strengths.
