The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have had a busy week making changes and preparing for the future. Earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats hired former Calgary Stampeders Brent Monson as their new defensive coordinator for the 2025 season. Along with hiring Monson, the Tiger-Cats announced through their X account that the naming rights contract between Hamilton and Tim Hortons had reached the end of their 10-year deal. So, in addition to making changes on the field, the Tiger-Cats stadium will also be carrying a new name for the 2025 season.
Hamilton has also added new players to their 2025 roster, signing three American players this week. According to the CFL Transactions list, the Tiger-Cats have signed defensive lineman Spencer Waege, wide receiver Cephus Johnson III, and defensive back Quavian White. As the Tiger-Cats continue to “shuffle the deck,” they are attempting to foster an environment that will allow them to overcome recent challenges and contend for a Grey Cup shortly.
Let’s look at the newest additions to the Tiger-Cats 2025 roster.
American defensive lineman Spencer Waege joins the Tiger-Cats after having a successful career at North Dakota State University. The 6’5″, 295-pound Waege played in 57 games with the Bison from 2017 until 2022, and he recorded 64 solo tackles, 74 assists, and 20.5 quarterback sacks. Waege spent the 2023 NFL season with the San Francisco 49ers and the 2024 NFL season with the Green Bay Packers.
American wide receiver Cephus Johnson III comes to Hamilton after playing six college football seasons for the University of South Alabama (2017-2019) and Southeastern Louisiana University (2020-2022). Johnson played in 16 games in South Alabama and 30 in Southeastern Louisiana. While playing at Southeastern Louisiana, he caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson spent portions of the 2023 and 2024 NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
American defensive back Quavian White joins the Tiger-Cats after spending the 2023 NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals. The 5’8″, 187-pound defensive back played five college football seasons at Georgia State University. While at Georgia State, White recorded 200 total tackles, ten tackles for loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, 32 pass deflections, 11 interceptions, a fumble recovery, and forced one fumble while playing for the Panthers.
