More Bricks in the Wall: Tiger-Cats Sign Two Offensive Lineman

Quality players on the offensive line are among the most common problems when teams build their teams in the CFL. As the Tiger-Cats prepare to make a significant turnaround in 2025 after not making the playoffs during the 2024 season, GM Ted Goveia has been working to build up the offensive and defensive lines for Hamilton. Recently, the Tiger-Cats announced that they signed former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Tyshun Render; now, the Tiger-Cats have signed two more linemen, this time on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage.

According to the CFL Transactions list, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed Darrin Paulo and Bryson Broadway, two American offensive linemen. Paulo comes to Hamilton after spending several NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions and the 2024 UFL season last spring with the Memphis Showboats. Broadway does not have NFL or UFL experience, but his 6’5″, 290-pound frame makes him the prototypical candidate for an offensive lineman in the CFL.

The 6’3″, 320-pound Paulo started his professional football career with the Denver Broncos during the 2020 NFL season. In 2021, he was signed by the Detroit Lions, and he spent three seasons with the Lions from 2021 until 2023. While in the NFL, Paulo spent time on the practice squads for the Lions and Broncos, but in the spring of 2024, he received an opportunity to play in the UFL for the Memphis Showboats.

While playing the UFL for Memphis, Paulo started all ten games for the Showboats while primarily playing guard for Memphis. Before starting his career in professional football, Paulo played college football at the University of Utah from 2015 until 2019. While playing for the Utes, Paulo played 52 games and started 39.

In addition to Paulo, Bryson Broadway is coming to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats looking for an opportunity to establish himself in the CFL. While Broadway does not have extensive NFL experience like Paulo, he has a record of success with multiple teams at the college football level. Despite his lack of experience at the professional level, Broadway’s size should give him a legitimate opportunity to compete for a spot on the Tiger-Cats roster for the 2025 CFL season.

The 6’5″, 290-pound Broadway is a native of Dawsonville, Georgia. Broadway started his college football career at NCAA FCS Eastern Illinois University, and while playing at Eastern Illinois, Broadway played in 14 games and started 10 of those games from 2020 until 2021. In 2022, Broadway transferred to Georgia State University, where he played 11 games and started all 11 of those games. In 2023, Broadway transferred again to Georgia Southern University, where he played in 23 games with 13 starts during the 2023 and 2024 college football seasons.

For the Tiger-Cats, there is never a situation in which they have too many quality players on their offensive line. During the 2024 season, the Tiger-Cats’ offensive production was the strength of the team. If Paulo or Broadway are able to earn an active role on the Tiger-Cats’ offensive line, then they could be the bricks in the wall that the Tiger-Cats have looked for year after year.
