National LB Trevor Hoyte Re-Signs with the Tiger-Cats

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have had a busy week in preparation for the start of free agency on February 11th. This week, the Tiger-Cats have re-signed several of their free agents, including wide receivers Kiondre Smith and Tyler Ternowski. In addition to re-signing their free agents, the Tiger-Cats have addressed some of the position groups in their depth chart, including Montreal defensive back Reggie Stubblefield and several defensive linemen from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Reggie Stubblefield will likely be an essential addition to the Tiger-Cats roster due to his experience playing Sam linebacker. Sam linebacker is a high-need area for the Tiger-Cats, so it is no surprise that along with acquiring Stubblefield, the Tiger-Cats have also re-signed National linebacker Trevor Hoyte, who also can play Sam linebacker. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced the return of Hoyte through a tweet on their X account.

Trevor Hoyte returns to the Tiger-Cats in 2025 after playing 18 games for Hamilton during the 2024 season, and Hoyte recorded 17 tackles. The Tiger-Cats signed Hoyte before the 2024 season after the native of Gatineau, Quebec, played 48 games for the Toronto Argonauts from 2021 until 2023. While playing for the Argonauts, Hoyte registered 38 tackles and contributed to Toronto winning the Grey Cup championship during the 2022 season. The Argonauts drafted Hoyte in the 4th round of the 2021 CFL Draft.

The 6’2″, 218-pound Sam linebacker played U Sports football for the Carleton College Ravens from 2017 until 2019. During that time, Hoyte played in 22 regular-season games and recorded 75 tackles, six tackles for loss, 4.5 quarterback sacks, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions. In 2019, Hoyte was a first-team OUA All-Star.
