The Newest Addition to the Tiger-Cats Roster: DB Jonathan Moxey

As the Hamilton Tiger-Cats transition from training camp and preseason games and make their final roster cuts for training camp, their focus moves on preparing for their Week 1 matchup on the road against the Calgary Stampeders. To have a solid start to the season, Hamilton continues to pursue players who can provide depth and quality to their defensive backfield. With building depth in the defensive backfield in mind, the Tiger-Cats have announced that they have signed American defensive back Jonathan Moxey.

Defensive back Jonathan Moxey started his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders in 2019. While playing for the Stampeders, Moxey appeared in 50 games and recorded 78 total tackles, intercepted three passes, and deflected passes. In 2022, he was named a CFL West All-Star during a season in which he broke up 13 passes. Moxey was released by the Stampeders on May 3rd, near the start of the Stampeders’ training camp.

Before making his mark in the CFL, Moxey ventured into the NFL, showcasing his skills with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2017) and the Arizona Cardinals (2017-2018). The 5’10”, 195-pound talent hails from West Palm Beach, Florida, and his football journey began at Boise State University from 2013 until 2016. During his time with the Broncos, Moxey left a lasting impression, appearing in 52 games and amassing an impressive record of 134 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, three interceptions, 34 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
