Ti-Cats Claw Their Way to Pre-Season Victory, Adjust Roster

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continued their successful 2025 training camp experience this week with a 24 to 16 win in their first pre-season game against the Toronto Argonauts. Hamilton’s performance featured a strong running game on the offensive side of the ball and an outstanding performance by their defensive line against the Argonauts running game. In addition to the running game, Tiger-Cats quarterbacks Bo Levi Mitchell and Taylor Powell showed great chemistry with the Tiger-Cats wide receivers Kenny Lawler and Tim White.

The Tiger-Cats started their last week of training camp by adding new components to their roster to get the best possible talent assessment. Hamilton will again face the Argonauts in their second pre-season game, but this game will be less about winning and more about player evaluation. Even though the end of training camp is near, it is still critical for players to show what they can offer to the Tiger-Cats to make the 2025 roster.

According to the CFL Transactions list, the Tiger-Cats have signed American wide receiver Matt Landers and American defensive back Cameron Lockridge and re-signed American defensive lineman Tyshun Render. Before the Tiger-Cats’ first pre-season game, Hamilton had released Render, but it seems that they had a sudden change of heart and brought Render back to their roster. While Hamilton added several players, they have also released American running back Christian Smith and American defensive lineman Christian McCarroll and moved National defensive lineman Luke Brubacher to the six-game injured reserve list.

New Additions to the Tiger-Cats Roster

American wide receiver Matt Landers comes to the Tiger-Cats after spending the 2024 NFL season with the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots. In 2023, Landers also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks after being signed by Seattle. During his college football career, the 6’4″, 200-pound Landers played college football at the University of Georgia (2017-2020), the University of Toledo (2021), and the University of Arkansas (2022). While playing for the Razorbacks, Landers played in 13 games, catching 47 passes for 901 yards and scoring eight touchdowns.

American defensive back Cameron Lockridge joins the Tiger-Cats training camp roster after finishing his college football career at Fresno State University. Lockridge played in 26 games for the Bulldogs from 2022 until 2024, and he recorded 11 interceptions and scored one defensive touchdown, along with 58 solo tackles, 32 assists, and one quarterback sack. Before his time at Fresno State, Lockridge played two seasons at the University of Hawaii during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. While playing in 19 games for the Rainbow Warriors, the 6’0″, 182-pound Lockridge intercepted three passes, scored a defensive touchdown, 58 solo tackles, and 15 assists.

It is rare for a Tiger-Cats player to be released and re-signed in less than a week, but Tyshun Render has lived that reality this weekend. The 6’4″, 245-pound Render signed with the Tiger-Cats after spending time with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins (2020-2021), the USFL’s New Jersey Generals (2022-2023), and the Memphis Showboats in the UFL in 2024. Before pursuing his professional football career, Render played 49 games at Middle Tennessee State University and registered 73 solo tackles, 46 assists, and 6.5 quarterback sacks while playing for the Blue Raiders.

Players Removed for the Tiger-Cats Roster

It is natural during training camp for players to be released before the official end of training camp next weekend. The Tiger-Cats’ most recent releases include American running back Chris Smith and American defensive lineman Christian McCarroll. It also appears that CFL draft pick defensive lineman Luke Brubacher suffered a significant injury in camp and has been added to the six-game injured reserve list.
