The day after announcing that they have re-signed CFL All-Star wide receiver Tim White, the Tiger-Cats have signed two additional American offensive players. According to the CFL Transactions list, the Tiger-Cats have signed wide receiver Juan Carlos Santana and running back Marcus Cooper. Marcus Cooper comes to Hamilton after spending time with the Seattle Seahawks during the 2023 season. Juan Carlos Santana signed with Hamilton after being cut by the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas last week.
Juan Carlos Santana is a 6’0″, 183-pound wide receiver from Katy, Texas. Santana played college football at the University of Tulsa from 2018 until 2022. During 38 games for Tulsa, he caught 123 passes for 1,781 yards and eleven touchdowns and had one rushing attempt for six yards.
Santana has described himself as a “big-game player,” but since leaving Tulsa, he has been searching for an opportunity to put his skills on display. After college, the Houston Texans and the Seattle Seahawks invited him to their Rookie Mini-Camps. During the fall of 2023, the San Antonio Brahmas signed Santana, and he was on their protected roster during the UFL player allocation period after the XFL/USFL merger. The Texas native was cut from the Brahmas roster as they prepare to start training camp for the 2024 UFL season.
Marcus Cooper is a 5’8″, 184-pound running back from Altair, Texas. Cooper started his college football career at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2017 and continued until 2020. While playing for the Lions, he had 74 rushing attempts for 350 yards, three touchdowns, 58 catches for 544 yards, and two receiving touchdowns.
Cooper finished his college football career playing at the University of Incarnate Word for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. While playing for the Cardinals, he had 311 carries for 2,021 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also caught 57 passes for 486 yards and three receiving touchdowns. The Seattle Seahawks signed Cooper as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
