Tiger-Cats Look West for Value Players: Sign WR Drew Wolitarsky

As Tiger-Cats general manager Ted Goveia gets settled into his position in Hamilton, it is clear that he values skill players willing to play a role. At the end of January, the Tiger-Cats re-signed National wide receiver Tyler Ternowski; Ternowski has been a valuable role player for Hamilton during the last four seasons. To start February, the Tiger-Cats continue to look for effective role players, and this time, Goveia is gathering resources from his last home, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Last week, on January 27th, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers released National wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky after Wolitarsky served seven seasons on the Blue Bombers roster. A few days later, the Tiger-Cats announced they had signed Wolitarsky to their 2025 roster. In the Tiger-Cats announcement, Goveia said, “In addition to being an extremely talented football player, Drew has a natural ability to lead and unite a football team.”  Wolitarsky is a native of Santa Clarita, California, but he is classified as a National player because his mother is a native of Montreal.

Wolitarsky is a 6’1″, 225-pound wide receiver who was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the 2017 CFL Supplemental Draft. Since being acquired by the Blue Bombers, Wolitarsky has played in 96 games for Winnipeg, catching 227 passes for 2,954 yards and 18 touchdowns. During the 2024 season, Wolitarsky played only in 10 games for the Blue Bombers and caught 33 passes for 403 yards and one touchdown.

Before coming to the CFL, Wolitarsky played college football at the University of Minnesota from 2013 until 2016. During that time, Wolitarsky played in 47 games for the Golden Gophers. Wolitasky caught 130 passes for 1,749 yards and nine touchdowns while playing in Minnesota.
