Tiger-Cats Reportedly Hire Ted Goveia as their New GM

According to a tweet by the 5th Quarter Host Rick Zamperin, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made their first front office change as they prepare for the 2025 season by hiring Ted Goveia as their new general manager.

Goveia joins the Tiger-Cats organization after former Tiger-Cats GM Ed Hervey decided to return to the Edmonton Elks. Prior to coming to Hamilton, Goveia spent the last ten seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. In 2013, he was hired by Winnipeg as their Assistant GM and Director of Players Personnel, and in 2019, he was promoted to Senior Assistant GM after the Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup Championship. While working for the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg played in five consecutive Grey Cup championship games.

Goveia started his career in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts as a Running Backs coach and Director of Canadian Scouting. He spent four seasons with the Argonauts from 2010 until 2013. In 2012, the Argonauts won the Grey Cup championship.

In addition to his experience in the CFL, Goveia coached University football in Canada for 15 years. He started his coaching career at Mount Allison University and helped lead Mount Allison to a Jewett Cup win in 1997. In 2003, Goveia moved on to McMaster, where he acted as the Marauders Recruiting Coordinator and Special Teams Coordinator.

While Goveia was at McMaster, the Marauders won 33 straight games, including three Yates Cup championships. During his time at McMaster, 36 players were selected as OUA All-Stars, and 15 players were named All-Canadian players. Goveia then took a position as the offensive coordinator at the University of British Columbia, and in 2006, he was named the head coach at UBC.

Goveia is currently on the Football Canada Board of Directors.
