While CFL teams are currently evaluating their needs and drafting prospects for the 2026 CFL Draft, the Tiger-Cats continue to stack their offensive and defensive fronts. A few weeks ago, the Tiger-Cats signed American offensive lineman Quinn Carroll to fill in some of the gaps that formed in their offensive line during free agency. Also, earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats signed American defensive lineman Brandon Brown to their defensive line.
While the Tiger-Cats have already invested some significant resources into controlling the line of scrimmage, there will never be a time when Hamilton will not be looking to add more depth due to the attrition that occurs during the season on the defensive and offensive lines. According to a Hamilton Tiger-Cats announcement and the CFL Transactions, the latest addition to the Tiger-Cats roster is offensive lineman Julian Pearl.
Julian Pearl is a 6’6″, 325-pound offensive lineman who played his college football at the University of Illinois from 2018 until 2023. During his six seasons with the Fighting Illini, Pearl played in 47 games and started 35. Pearl has also spent time in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024 and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.
Pearl brings elite size for an offensive lineman, and he has developed a reputation for a violent punch and for finishing his blocks hard. In addition, Pearl also has a high football IQ, and while playing at Illinois, he showed his versatility by playing left tackle, right tackle, and right guard. However, Pearl has struggled with inconsistent technique and, at times, with balance while blocking, especially in pass protection.
