The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday the extension of wide receiver Cole Spieker through the 2026 season. Spieker has been a player who had to wait for his chance to shine but has always played very well when called upon. So far this season Spieker has played in 15 games which has seen him catch 49 passes for 710 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is currently tied for first in touchdown receptions and 18th in the league in receiving yards.
“Cole always shows up on the field when we call his name.” Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia stated. ”He is able to play on the inside as a receiver as well as on the outside. His versatility adds a lot to our team. We know that when he touches the ball, it’s going to stay in his hands, and our quarterbacks have great confidence in him.”
Spieker had an unlikely path to CFL stardom. He played his college ball in division 3 with Wisconsin-LaCrosse where he appeared in 30 games and caught 144 passes for 2,338 yards and 26 touchdowns. He had 1,216 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games in his final season in 2019. In 2021 he played in The Spring League and recorded 17 catches for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Ahead of the 2022 CFL season, Spieker attended one of the open tryouts for the Montreal Alouettes in the US. He signed a contract with the team the following morning. He was one of 2 players to be signed by the team from open tryouts that year and the only one on the roster following final cuts.
Spieker spent the majority of the 2022 season on the practice roster before he saw his first game action as a 2nd-string receiver in week 19 and again in week 21 as a starter. In his first start, he caught 6 passes for 105 yards. His 2nd career start was in the 2022 Eastern Final which he caught 4 passes for 66 yards in the loss to Toronto.
Last year saw Spieker play in 12 games with 10 starts and record 33 receptions for 389 yards and a touchdown. He made a big impact in Montreal’s Grey Cup victory as he caught 3 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in Montreal’s Grey Cup victory.
Still thinking about this @SpiekerCole touchdown from week 14 reeled in with one hand in the dying seconds of the half.

His alma mater @UWLEagleFB will be taking on the #2 ranked D2 team @gvsufootball. GVSU is where Hamilton Tiger-Cats OL Brandon Revenberg played. #CFL pic.twitter.com/61E1Q35kXp
