Overview of the official roster for the 2022 Hamilton Tiger-Cats

With the conclusion of the pre-season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats coaching staff faced the task of evaluating the players on the pre-season roster and making final cuts. The result of that evaluation was was 23 players being released, and 12 additional players being assigned to the practice squad.

Today we will take a look at the breakdown of players that successfully made the regular season roster. In the following days we will dig a little deeper and begin to breakdown the players that make up the offensive, defensive, and special teams units for the 2022 Tiger-Cats.

Offensively, the Tiger-Cats currently have 21 offensive players on the active roster, 4 additional offensive practice squad players, 3 offensive players on the 6-week injured list, and 2 additional offensive lineman that are currently suspended. Amongst the offensive players on the active roster we can see the following breakdown: 3 quarterbacks, 2 fullbacks, 3 running backs, 6 wide receivers, and 7 offensive lineman. It was surprising to see that the Tiger-Cats kept all 4 quarterbacks that had been a part of the pre-season roster. The Tiger-Cats offense will need to gel heading into the regular season.

Defensively, the Tiger-Cats have 26 defensive players on the active roster, and 7 additional defensive players on the practice roster. The positional breakdown of the defensive roster includes: 5 defensive tackles, 4 defensive ends, 8 linebackers, and 9 defensive backs. The defensive roster shows a balanced mix of experienced defensive players, and young players that add depth. Early in the season the defense will be the strength of the Tiger-Cats which means these players will need to step up and give the Tiger-Cats offense a chance to get into a rhythm.

With regards to special teams, the Tiger-Cats retained 1 kicker, 1 punter, 1 long snapper, and assigned an additional punter to the practice squad. In the pre-season, the special teams units were an area of strength for the Tiger-Cats. It will be critical that the special teams units are fundamentally sound and successful to give this Hamilton Tiger-Cats a chance to be successful early in the 2022 CFL season.

Over the next few days we will take a deeper look at the offensive, defensive, and special teams players on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats active roster for 2022. These Tiger-Cats will face the challenge of coming together and prepare to play a high quality Saskatchewan Roughriders team this Saturday, June 11th at 7 pm.
