Saskatchewan Sign American Defensive Back Eric Smith

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive back Eric Smith.

The five-foot-ten, 177-pound cover man had a four-year collegiate career at Florida A&M. During his time there, the former Rattler recorded 109 defensive tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, 18 pass deflections and two forced fumbles across 37 games.

In 2023 the Opa-Locka, Florida native was named to the All-SWAC First-Team, helping his team top the standings of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and win the Celebration Bowl in the process. Smith arrives at the land of living skies with no professional football experience, despite running a 4.34-second forty-yard dash at the HBCU Combine

He’ll join a crowded rookie American defensive back group with the likes of Mark Fields II, Nick Nelson, C.J. Coldon, Antoine Brooks Jr., Cole Coleman, Holton Hill, Jamar Johnson, DaMarcus Fields, and Marcus Murphy, all of whom will be trying to make the team out of camp.
