Stampeders Sign Four Americans to Their Defense

The Calgary Stampeders continue to add talent to their roster by signing four Americans to their defense.

Defensive linemen Kalil Morris and Qaadir Sheppard, linebacker Silas Stewart and defensive back Kobe Williams were added to the roster Friday. Morris, Sheppard, and Stewart previously played in The Spring League last fall.

Adding to the resume, Morris was a member of the Baltimore Ravens back in 2019. In 33 games at Kent State, he 70 tackles including seven tackles for loss, two sacks and two blocked field goals. He earned second-team all-MAC conference honors in 2018.

Sheppard started his college career at Syracuse before spending three years at Ole Miss. He played in 27 games recording 81 tackles and 12 of those tackles were for loss. Sheppard also was named on the SEC academic honor roll in 2019 at Ole Miss.

Stewart had a similar path to Morris starting out with the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 before joining The Spring League in 2020. He was a second-team all-Southland conference member in 2018 with Incarnate Word in college. In two seasons with the Cardinals, Stewart recorded 130 tackles including 7.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles in 21 games.

Williams was a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. In college at Arizona State, Williams recorded 143 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 25 passes defended, and two interceptions in 38 games. He was voted as the Sun Devils’ defensive MVP in 2019.

The roster moves adds more depth to the defense that lost key contributors Cordarro Law and Chris Casher among others. They will be joining top defensive players like linebacker Cory Greenwood and defensive back DaShaun Amos. Calgary is hoping for the new additions to help out on special teams and defense this season.
