The Argos Begin Rookie Minicamp, Add Two New Players To Roster

The Argos are conducting the team’s rookie minicamp as the team edges closer to a fully-fledged training camp and preseason games. Toronto’s recent draft picks, and American rookies like quarterback Chad Kelly are taking part in minicamp. Just days before, the full team is expected to arrive this coming weekend.

Toronto’s three-day rookie camp started on Wednesday for draft picks and first-year CFL players before rosters are cut down to 85 on May 14th. Veterans are expected to arrive on Sunday, May 15th, and two days later, the roster gets trimmed down to the final 75 plus non-counters.

Provided that talks and negotiations between the CFL and players association for a new labor deal are resolved in time.

On Thursday, the Toronto Argonauts announced the signing of American players OL Kofi Appiah and DB Caleb Holden. American DB James Sample has been moved to the retired list. These latest transactions leave the Argos with 104 players on their current roster. Second-round pick, Western DT Deionte Knight remains unsigned as of press time as he continues to work out for NFL teams. This weekend, Knight is expected to participate in rookie minicamp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Argos Sign Two American Players

The Toronto Argonauts announced today the signing of American OL Kofi Appiah and American DB Caleb Holden.

Kofi Appiah, 23, played four seasons at Villanova University (2018-2021) and made 28 appearances with 26 starts for the Wildcats. The 6’6, 305lb native of Maryland helped ‘Nova average almost 400 yards of offense per game in 2020, including 208 yards on the ground. Appiah was part of the conference’s Honour Roll in 2020.

Caleb Holden, 23, played five seasons at Merrimack College (2017-2021), where throughout 45 games, the 5-10, 180lb DB made 106 tackles, one sack, nine interceptions, 43 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The New Jersey native was All-Conference Third Team in 2018 and spent rookie mini-camp with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021.
