Tiger-Cats Sign American LB Carlton Martial And National OL Mojtaba Mehry, Ja’Gared Davis On Teams Suspended List

Hamilton started the first official of the 2023 training camp with several roster moves. To start the day, Hamilton announced they had added American linebacker Carlton Martial and National offensive lineman Mojtaba Mehry to the pre-season roster.

In addition, Hamilton released four players from the roster, a National offensive lineman retired, and the Tiger-Cats suspended two veteran players.

Newly Signed Players

Carlton Martial is a 5’9″, 210-pound linebacker from Mobile, Alabama. Martial played college football at Troy University for five years, from 2108 until 2022. During his five-year career with the Trojans, he accumulated 577 tackles, 50.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, six interceptions, and 15 pass breakups. He also holds the Sun Belt Conference record for total tackles and was named 1st team All-Sun Belt four times from 2019 until 2022.

Mojtaba Mehry is a 6’5″, 300-pound offensive lineman from Leamington, Ontario. Mehry played four seasons of U Sports football at the University of Toronto from 2018 until 2022. He played in 31 games during his four seasons, Mehry was selected offensive lineman of the year two times, and he caught a 3-yard touchdown pass in 2022.

Released and Retired

Hamilton released several players from the pre-season roster, including two kickers and two defensive backs. The Tiger-Cats removed former Washington kicker Peyton Henry and former Sacramento State kicker Kent Sentkowski from the roster. In addition to the pair of kickers, Hamilton also released defensive backs DeMarkus Acy and Brandon Easterling from the Hamilton training camp roster.

National offensive lineman Nicolas Guay announced his retirement from the CFL before playing a down for the Tiger-Cats. Guay played U-Sports football at Laval and is from Quebec, Quebec.

Injuries and Suspensions

Hamilton moved American defensive tackle Dylan Wynn has been forced to the injured list. Wynn is a five-year veteran of the CFL and is beginning his fourth season with Hamilton. He missed six games in 2021 and 2022 with injuries. Despite only playing 12 games in 2022, the 6’2″, 283-pound defensive tackle did produce 31 tackles and four sacks.

The Tiger-Cats suspended American kicker Seth Small and an American defensive lineman Ja’Gared Davis. Hamilton did not release the reason for the suspensions, but both have not reported to training camp in 2023.

Seth Small took over kicking duties in the middle of the 2022 season, and he went 39 for 43 on-field goal attempts while playing in 14 games.

Former SMU defensive end Ja’Gared Davis joins the Tiger-Cats after being signed during the 2023 Free-Agent Period; he recorded 36 tackles and seven sacks while playing for the Toronto Argonauts in 2022.
