Lions’ Recap

The BC Lions exhibited a mix of flashes of brilliance and missed opportunities. Vernon Adams Jr., their quarterback, put on a brave face, completing 24 of 39 passes for 388 yards, and threw three touchdown passes. However, Adams Jr. also grappled with accuracy issues, throwing six interceptions that punctuated an otherwise solid performance.

The Lions’ rushing game was largely unremarkable. Taquan Mizzell led the pack with 22 yards from six attempts, followed by Kienan Lafrance also making 22 yards from three carries. Adams Jr. himself contributed 8 yards on two carries.

Wide receiver, Keon Hatcher, was the top performer in the Lions’ passing game, accumulating 104 yards from eight catches and scoring a touchdown. Dominique Rhymes was not far behind with 65 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side, the Lions were led by cornerback Emmanuel Rugamba, who delivered seven total tackles. Defensive tackle Mathieu Betts also put in an impressive shift with four tackles and two quarterback sacks.

Argonauts’ Recap

Meanwhile, the Toronto Argonauts exhibited clinical efficiency. Their quarterback, Chad Kelly, had an excellent night, throwing for 249 yards and a touchdown, completing 23 of his 29 attempts without throwing a single interception.

The Argonauts’ running game was headed by A.J. Ouellette, who made 70 yards from 14 attempts and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Kelly also showed his versatility, rushing for 25 yards.

In the receiving department, Cam Phillips stood out with 76 yards from six receptions. DaVaris Daniels also had an impactful performance, making 47 yards from four receptions and scoring a touchdown.

The Argonauts defense also played a major role in securing this victory. Linebacker Jonathan Jones led the defensive stats with six total tackles and an interception. Defensive tackle Robbie Smith also contributed significantly with five tackles.

Wrapping Up

In this game, the Argonauts’ overall clinical efficiency outshined the Lions’ occasional sparks of brilliance. While the Lions had strong individual performances, they were hampered by turnovers and couldn’t match the Argonauts’ all-round team performance.

The Lions will need to review their game plan, particularly their defensive strategies, while the Argonauts will want to maintain their high-performance level in their upcoming CFL fixtures.

Chad Kelly is making sound football decisions. Unlike Vernon Adams Jr. Kelly didn’t throw it up for grabs or try to force it in there. Kelly simply didn’t give the game away and let the defense do the rest. That is why Kelly is having better luck than Johnny Manziel did in 2018.
