Truth Bombs: The Bombers Are Still Not Out Of It At 2-5

In the CFL no team is really out of it even if they are 2-5 like the Bombers are.

All we really have to do is point to the 2023 Montreal team. Or the 2011 Bombers that started the season 7-1 (with Saskatchewan starting 1-7) only to see the Bombers end the season going 1-7 in their last 8 games.

Or if you want to look at it another way, in 2022 Winnipeg had a 15-3 record…but lost the Grey Cup. And in 2023, the Bombers would have a 14-4 regular season record and again lost the Grey Cup.

By no means am I suggesting that this is where the Bombers want to be in 2024 with a 2-5 record. All I am suggesting is that this is the CFL and all you have to do is get into the playoffs…then anything can happen!

What Must The Bomber Do?

First of all, the Bombers have to put more points on the board!
9 points will not win any CFL game! Now, I certainly do not blame the Bomber’s kicker Castillo. He did his job. But you will not win CFL games with only field goals. You need your field goal kicker to put some points on the board, but he can not put the only points on the board.

Secondly, Collaros needs to be better! Is it an issue of arm strength; that the top receivers are out; that current receivers are dropping balls; that he is scared; that the O-Line has some newer pieces?

I have never talked to the man, Collaros about this, but I can guarantee you that if you put those questions to him he would say, “We have to be better, I have to be better. I need to execute my assignments and make better decisions.” He would take the blame, because that is what leaders do.

Here’s what Zach Said

“It’s a results-oriented business and a what’s now business,” he said. “I’m not happy with myself, with how I’ve been playing. But you never truly are, now matter how well you’re doing. It’s just something that we’ve got to keep working it.

“… For me, personally, it’s making a mistake there in the third quarter (on an interception in the score zone). We’re down one touchdown and I throw an interception. You want to play a clean football game. You don’t want to turn the football over. As a vet, as a leader you go and do that.

“So, you’ve got to lead by example, in that respect. And lead with your words as well.” – Source

Thirdly, the Bombers must make some moves. To think this current roster is going to turn it around is ludicrous. The Bombers are out of time. A good sign is that the Bombers seem to know this. Signing Lucky Whitehead earlier, and recently signing Arron Grymes indicates that the Bombers are aware that they need help!

Can they get these players (and others they may yet sign) up to speed and in the game in time remains the question.

At some point in time the record is going to speak for itself. And if that time is not now, we are certainly ever approaching that moment.

The Bomber can silence some of those questions, and the record if they can beat Toronto this Friday, who currently sit at 3-2. However, should they lose that contest, the record will no longer be able to be muzzled and will come out screaming!

Can’t argue what you are saying BUT Whitehead and an aging defensive back are not the answer. Whitehead was here before and didn’t fit in. Grymes is 33 years old. Not the answer we’re looking for. In my option 80% of the problem is the O-line. Neufeld and his crew are not doing there job. Age or inexperience. I believe that is where we need some change immediately. Go Blue Go!
