US to Extend Border Restrictions for Canada and Mexico

Despite the recent news that Canada will open its borders to fully vaccinated US residents on August 9th, the Biden administration has decided to extend the US regulations.

The target date for the US border to open for non-essential travel is August 21st. But that can be extended as well as rescinded.

The decision to extend came on the date on which previous restrictions were set to expire, and came with some backlash from some political arenas.

This document announces the decision of the Secretary of Homeland Security to continue to temporarily limit the travel of individuals from Canada into the United States at land ports of entry along the United States-Canada border. Such travel will be limited to ‘essential travel,’ as further defined in this document.”

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas

Just as Canada set parameters of who can enter or exit, this statement also requires those who do travel to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours test and a full round of vaccines, while also being non-synptomatic.

Even though Canada will allow US citizens on 8/9, America must adhere to the extended restrictions. This will undoubtedly cause some CFL fans in the state’s access to games.

The Canadian government will not amend its decision to open the border on August 9th.
