Berlin Puts Barcelona’s Playoffs Hopes on Hold, Win 19-3

Barcelona coming off the big win against Stuttgart making a playoff push travelling back to Germany to play the 1-5 Thunder.

Rain in the forecast again, and it did cause some trouble early.

1st Half

Barcelona QB Zach Edwards orchestrated a great drive for the Dragon within the 5, ready to punch it in. WR Remi Bertellin made two big catches, one for 14 yards, another for 40. But heartbreak would happen on the next pass. Berlin DB Jameel White interception in the endzone, and took it 101 yards to the house.

They were already leading by first drive FG, so the score on the missed PAT was 9-0.

The rest of the 1st half was lackluster, as they simply traded punts and FG attempts. End of the half score was 12-3 in favor of Berlin.

2nd Half

Barcelona received the 2nd half kick, and because 38 total yards by WR Jean Constant, the Dragons were in FG range, and put 3 on the board.

Berlin had the ball for 4 plays on their next drive before they had to punt.

The Dragons started their drive with just under 10:00 to go in the 3rd, but another great defensive play, set up yet another turnover. Moritz Thiele picked off an Edwards pass and for the TD. The score now is 19-3.

Defenses were all over Edwards the entire game, vey little rhythm could be found.

This half has been about as bland as it can get with the rain a factor, but it has allowed for defenses to come up big. Teams traded punts until the Dragons tried a trick play behind the line, and Constant couldn’t keep it. Fumble recovered by Berlin.

The rest of the half were more punts and turnovers. No offense could get anything going, all points were scored by special teams and defense.

The Berlin Thunder improve to 2-6 and play Wroclaw, while the Dragons fall to 3-6 and play the Galaxy next week.
