Alouettes Soar Over Argos To Force First Place Tie In The East

The Alouettes, behind a 21 point second quarter, toppled the Argos 37-16 at home. By doing so, Montreal is now tied for first with Toronto in the East at 6-4. The Als hold the point differential advantage to take the top spot technically. The victory by the Alouettes evens their head-to-head series with the Boatmen and puts the Eastern division up for grabs with four weeks left to play.

Led by a career night and a 203-yard rushing effort by CFL leading rusher William Stanback, two touchdown receptions by Eugene Lewis, and a defence that produced 3 sacks, countless pressures, and forced four turnovers. The Alouettes were a step ahead and above the Argos all Friday Night.

The game turned drastically for the Boatmen in the second quarter when Montreal scored 21 unanswered points to soar past them, and they never looked back. A controversial non-call on a blatant offensive pass interference by Eugene Lewis that resulted in a touchdown helped change the game’s momentum in Montreal’s favor.

Argos QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson had his worst game of the season, throwing four interceptions. Toronto’s defence gave up 443 yards. It was a rough night all-around for the Argos. The loss for Toronto was a humbling one after coming off of a thrilling victory over Hamilton on Thanksgiving.

The Alouettes, now winners of four straight, will be back home next Saturday facing off with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, before back-to-back games with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, followed by a regular-season finale at home against Ottawa.

The Argos will square off with the BC Lions at BMO Field next Saturday. Toronto will then head to Ottawa before finishing their regular season with two straight home games against the Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks.

Macbeth is a turnover machine. Toronto should bring in Johnny Manziel and create some excitement.
