Saskatchewan Roughriders Sign Former Saint Defensive Back DaMarcus Fields

The Green and White have bolstered their secondary and added to their training camp roster with the signing of defensive back DaMarcus Fields.

The 26-year-old went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft before signing with the New Orleans Saints that offseason. Fields dressed for two regular season games for New Orleans before making his way to the Washington Commanders and spending time on the practice roster.

The six-foot, 200-pound cover man was a star collegiately over his six seasons at Texas Tech. Across 54 games the Taylor, Texas native collected 224 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 45 pass deflections (the most by a Red Raider since 2000), four interceptions, and four forced and recovered fumbles.

Fields was named a three-time All-Big 12 honourable mention between 2018 and 2020, before cracking the list in his senior season when he was named to the All-Big 12 second team in 2021, while also earning an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl.

The former NFLer joins Holton Hill, Jamar Johnson, Nick Nelson, C.J. Coldon, Mark Fields II, Marcus Murphy, and Cole Coleman as rookie American defensive backs trying to make the Green and White in what is shaping out to be a new look cover man group. Jalon Edwards-Cooper was also brought in from the B.C. Lions while Nick Marshall was released and Jeremy Clark and Trumaine Washington remain unsigned.
