Edmonton Elks Retain National DL Sam Acheampong with One-Year Extension

In recent team news, the Edmonton Elks have officially confirmed the re-signing of National defensive lineman Sam Acheampong. The organization has secured Acheampong’s presence on the roster for another year, as stated by the club this Friday.

The Elks welcomed Acheampong to their fold via a trade transaction that involved the Toronto Argonauts on July 8. Since joining the green and gold, Acheampong has been a consistent presence on the field, contributing to the team over the course of 12 matches in the 2023 CFL season. His performance included 15 defensive tackles and he also registered a single sack over this period.

Before arriving in Edmonton, Acheampong had a notable stint with the Toronto Argonauts where he distinguished himself as part of the victorious 2022 Grey Cup team. The Brampton, Ontario-born player kicked off his CFL career with the Argonauts after the team picked him in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft. Over a span of three seasons with Toronto, Acheampong accumulated an impressive track record with 50 tackles and nine sacks throughout his 42-game CFL career.

Edmonton Elks fans can look forward to the team’s 75th CFL season in 2024, with these latest roster enhancements set to add renewed energy and skill to their lineup.
