“Javon is an elite talent as a returner and running back, he’s been on my radar and I’ve tracked him since 2020 when he left the University of Maryland, “said Elks assistant general manager Geroy Simon.

“He was our number one target heading into free agency and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join the Double E.”

Leake began his CFL career with the Toronto Argonauts in 2022 suiting up for eight games.  He would also be a key contributor for Double Blue in the form of his magical special team returns setting up the offense in a good position to begin offensive drives, and most importantly, helping the Toronto Argonauts win the 2022 Grey Cup.

In 2023, Leak would elevate his game even further registering 1,216 punt return yards, and four touchdowns in 17 games.

For a team that has had its fair share of special teams’ issues, this surely places Edmonton in a good spot for the 2024 season. Not only is this a significant upgrade in acquiring Leake, he is a player that will be a potential game changer moving forward.

In 25 games in the CFL, thus far, Leake has a total of 2,859 all-purpose yards.
