The Evolution of the 2025 Tiger-Cats: New Faces and Championship Dreams

Completing the CFL Global Draft and the CFL Draft signals the end of the off-season and the transition into training camp in preparation for the 2025 CFL season. A big part of that transition is officially signing the prospects the Tiger-Cats acquired during the Global and CFL Draft. In addition to adding the draft picks to the training camp roster, Hamilton is adding more players to complete their training camp roster so that the Tiger-Cats coaching staff can evaluate players before the first round of roster cuts, bringing Hamilton’s roster down to 75.

The CFL Transactions list that the Tiger-Cats have had a busy end of draft week by signing several draft picks, including National defensive lineman Nate Martey and Ty Anderson. Along with signing several draft picks, the Tiger-Cats have also signed National kick Eric Maximuik, who played U Sports football at Concordia University. Hamilton has also signed American quarterback Tyler Huff, American wide receiver Tre’Shaun Harrison, American defensive end Marcel Walker-Burgess, and American defensive lineman Thomas Gore.

Adding Elite Prospects to the Offensive Side of the Ball

In addition to signing several recent draft picks, the Tiger-Cats have added quarterback Tyler Huff to their training camp roster. Huff joins a Tiger-Cats talented quarterback room led by Bo Levi Mitchell. The 6’1″, 216-pound Huff played college football at NCAA FCS Presbyterian College (2019-2021), NCAA FCS Furman University (2022-2023), and FBS Jacksonville State University (2024). During the 2024 season, Huff played 14 games for the Gamecocks, completing 178 out of 292 passes for 2,545 yards and 14 touchdowns with only seven interceptions.

The Tiger-Cats have also added American wide receiver Tre’Shaun Harrison after he spent time with the Tennessee Titans during the 2024 NFL season. The 5’11”, 188-pound Harrison played college football at FBS Florida State (2018-2019) and FBS Oregon State (2020-2022). Harrison played in 28 games for the Beavers and caught 90 passes for 1,147 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tiger-Cats Make Additional Moves to Load Up on Defence

Defensively, the Tiger-Cats continue to add depth to their defensive line and defensive backfield. American defensive end Marcel Walker-Burgess comes to the Tiger-Cats after finishing his college football career at Ohio University in 2024. The 6’2″, 252-pound Walker-Burgess played in 14 games for the Bobcats, and he recorded 33 solo tackles, 23 assists, 7.5 tackles for loss, six quarterback sacks, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one interception.

American defensive lineman Thomas Gore comes to the Tiger-Cats roster after spending his college football career with Georgia State (2019-2022), University of Miami (2023-2024), and Georgia Tech (2024). The 6’0″, 280-pound Gore played in 38 games for Georgia State and recorded 49 solo tackles, 43 assists, and 10.5 quarterback sacks. While at Miami, Gore only played in 12 games and added five solo tackles, three assists, and two sacks to his record. Gore finished his collegiate career at Georgia Tech, where he played in 13 games and recorded eight solo tackles, six assists, and .5 quarterback sacks.

American defensive back Eric Haney comes to the CFL after playing college football at the University of San Diego from 2020 until 2024. While playing for the Toreros, Haney appeared in 42 games and recorded 105 solo tackles, 42 assists, 14 tackles for loss, and two quarterback sacks. The 5’10”, 180-pound Haney also intercepted five passes and returned two interceptions for touchdowns.

Tiger-Cats Make Several Cuts from their Roster

Along with the recent additions to the Tiger-Cats roster, numerous players were released. Hamilton has removed National linebacker Nick Cross and National fullback Felix Garand-Gauthier from the 2025 roster. Hamilton also removed American linebacker Tyler Murray from the Tiger-Cats roster after announcing his retirement from the CFL.
