Well as always in the CFL, the bye week did the BC Lions some good, but at the same time, it just crushed their previous momentum, but it’s something that the players definitely have to get used to.
And speaking of momentum crushers, the Lions were doing well all season and were undefeated before their last game, which was when they faced what head coach of the Lions, Rick Campbell, called the “cream of the crop,” the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Of course they’re the cream of the crop, they are the returning Grey Cup champs; should go without saying, but judging by the momentum that the Lions themselves had so far this season I’ll have to admit that even I had a different ending in mind for that last game; especially with Nathan Rourke in that QB position…and with how much of a fire is alight beneath him and his own momentum to boot.
Regardless, the game is in the history books and we all have to deal with it. Now the Lions are scheduled to face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this Thursday July 21st at 10 PM EST and despite the previous loss to the Bombers before the bye week, they are roaring to go… (See what I did there?).
Anywho…The Lions seem to have their work cut out for them though, because in the injury department, they have had a wee bit of bad luck. Well…there’s good news and there’s bad news, really. Isn’t there always?
I’ll give the good news first, so the bad news is that much easier to handle…
The good…
Lucky Whitehead is apparently very close to being in tip top after his ankle issues that have been giving him issue. He had some words on the matter and how he’s feeling. He also practiced this week and is not only putting weight on it, but performing the way he’s used to performing…stating also that the bye week did him a world of good. He said:
“It’s been tough being a fast guy not able to run fast…I felt like I was helping my guys being out there (against Winnipeg). I felt like I had some eyes on me. It feels good to finally get out there again running around and not just being a decoy. The bye week was major for me. It came at the right time…
I’m a solid 95 per cent now…I was a good 75 per cent (for the Winnipeg game). I couldn’t make a certain cuts. Mentally I was thinking about it. Overall now, I just feel better cutting, stopping and starting again…once I get going in this game and show him that I’m ready to roll, I’ll get back there…
I love that. It’s a game changer. It’s exciting for the fans, it’s exciting for your teammates…If I have a chance to change the game and flip the field, I want to do that.”

The bad…
Linebacker, Bo Lokombo, is said to be on the six game injured list and that’s because of an elbow injury. According to Farhan Lalji of TSN, Lokombo will be needing surgery to fix the issue.
And the downright ugly…
Furthermore, Defensive back, Delvin Breaux Sr., is not doing well at all…issues with his elbow.
The term from bad to worse certainly comes to mind. Head coach, Rick Campbell did provide an update on the Bryan Burnham situation and his broken ribs and collapsed lung, stating he’s doing well and his return should be in about a month and maybe less, so in the end, dear readers, I leave you with a wee bit of hope…especially when dealing with BC…because in the end, all you need is hope, in any endeavor. Apropos for a province that actually has a town called Hope in it, isn’t it? I think so.
