Montreal Selects Arizona TE Rohan Jones 8th Overall, Alouettes CFL and Global Draft Summary

The Montreal Alouettes have taken tight end Rohan Jones with the 8th overall pick in the CFL Draft, who himself is a Montrealer and played most recently with the Arkansas Razorbacks, and signed with the LA Rams a few days ago, with the transaction being processed on Tuesday. The Alouettes selected 3 defensive backs, a defensive end, a running back, a wide receiver, and a kicker/punter.

Round 1 (8th overall) TE Rohan Jones – Arkansas (6’3 236lbs)

Montreal drafted tight end Rohan Jones in the first round, 8th overall. Jones began his collegiate career with Maine in 2022, where he played in 22 games with 6 starts over 2 seasons. He recorded 31 receptions for 363 yards and 7 touchdowns with Maine.

He played for Montana State in 2024, where he played in 14 games with 3 starts and caught 30 passes for 470 yards and 9 touchdowns, and was named First-Team All-Big Sky.

Jones played for Arkansas in 2025, moving to the FBS for his final NCAA season in what would be his most productive season. He played in 12 games with 4 starts with the Razorbacks, catching 19 passes for 519 yards and 4 touchdowns.

At his pro day, he recorded a 4.72-second 40-yard dash, a 4.5-second shuttle, a 7.15-second 3-cone drill, a 32.5-inch vertical, a 9’11 broad jump, and 25 bench reps (225 lbs). He was highlighted by Coty Wiles, TSN writer and former CFL News Hub Writer, and given a score of 7.54 at fullback and 5.48 at wideout based on his testing numbers, and ranked 14th in his rankings.

We may have to wait to see how the Alouettes utilize their new tight end in the Canadian system, as he was just recently signed by the LA Rams as an undrafted free agent.

Round 2 (17th overall) DB Shakespeare Louis – Southeastern Louisiana (6’1″, 190 lbs.)

The Alouettes drafted defensive back Shakespeare Louis in the second round, 17th overall. Louis played for Southeastern Louisiana University last season, where he recorded 44 total tackles, an interception, two passes defended, and forced a fumble over 13 games. From 2021 to 2023, he played for Robert Morris University, where he recorded 46 total tackles and 4 passes defended over 20 games.

At the CFL Combine, he recorded a 31.5-inch vertical, a 9’10 1/4” broad jump, a 7.56-second 3-cone drill, and a 4.53-second shuttle.

Round 3 (28th overall) WR Nathan Udoh – Manitoba (6’1″, 215 lbs.)

The Alouettes drafted wide receiver Nathan Udoh in the third round, 28th overall. Udoh played with the University of Manitoba Bisons from 2022 to 2025. He played in 28 games for the Bison, where he caught 57 passes for 773 yards and 3 touchdowns. 2025 was a breakout season for Udoh as he recorded 599 yards on 44 receptions and added three touchdowns in nine games.

At the CFL Combine, he recorded a 4.75-second 40-yard dash, a 4.44-second shuttle, a 7.12-second 3-cone drill, a 35-inch vertical, a 9’11 1/2” broad jump, and 10 bench reps (225 lbs).

Round 4 (37th overall) RB Liam Talbot – Windsor (6’1″, 205 lbs.)

Liam Talbot played the last 4 seasons for Windsor, appearing in 29 games. He rushed 88 times for 641 yards (7.3 average) and 4 touchdowns, and caught 18 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown. 2025 saw his utilization increase significantly as he rushed 49 times for 291 yards (5.9 average) and a touchdown. He also returned 56 kicks for a total of 564 yards in his last 2 seasons.

At the CFL Combine, he recorded a 34-inch vertical, a 9’7 1/4” broad jump, a 7.12-second 3-cone drill, and a 4.22-second shuttle.

Round 5 (46th overall) DB Harrison Daley – Windsor (6’4″, 210 lbs.)

Harrison Daley also played for Windsor, where he played in 34 games from 2021 through 2025. He recorded 80 total tackles, a tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, 4 passes defended, and a forced fumble. He had 29 total tackles and an interception in 2023, but was limited to just 1 game the following year. Last season, he had 32 tackles and an interception.

At the CFL Combine, he recorded a 4.7-second 40-yard dash, a 4.31-second shuttle, a 7.5-second 3-cone drill, a 31.5-inch vertical, a 9’5 3/4” broad jump, and 18 bench reps (225 lbs).

Round 6 (55th overall) K/P Michael Horvat – McMaster (5’10″, 185 lbs.)

Michael Horvat was named U Sports First Team All-Canadian in both 2025 and 2024. In 2023, he was named Second Team All-Canadian. He played in 28 games for McMaster from 2022 through 2025. He made 61 of his 74 field goals. Last season, he made 20 of his 24 field goals, one of which was blocked.

Horvat also handled punting duties, punting 160 times for an average of 46.1 yards. He had 19 punts over 50 yards in 2024 and 19 punts inside the 20 in 2025.

Horvat can also say he had a 100% passing completion, having completed his only pass attempt for 13 yards.

Round 7 (64th overall) DB Cyrus McGarrell – Northern Illinois (6’2″, 197 lbs.)

Cyrus McGarrell played his collegiate career with Northern Illinois, where he appeared in 33 games with 2 starts from 2021 to 2025. He recorded 31 total tackles, a tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defended, and a fumble recovery. His most productive season was in 2023, which saw him make 20 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 2 passes defended. He was limited to only 1 game in 2025, likely affecting his draft stock.

At the CFL Combine, he recorded a 4.69-second 40-yard dash, a 37-inch vertical, a 4.08-second shuttle, and 13 bench reps (225 lbs).

Round 8 (73rd overall) WR Zachary Houde – St. Francis Xavier (6’1″, 205 lbs.)

The Alouettes drafted wide receiver Zachary Houde with their final selection, 73rd overall. Houde played 25 career games with St. Francis Xavier University. The native of Thetford Mines caught 114 passes for 2,035 yards and nine touchdowns over the last 4 seasons. Last season, he caught 30 passes for 458 yards and 2 touchdowns. He had over 400 yards in every season.

Global Draft Round 1 (8th overall, Global) OL Mark Petry – Syracuse (6’4″, 301 lbs.)

Montreal drafted German offensive lineman Mark Petry eighth overall in the Global Draft. Petry played 39 games, including 24 starts, over five seasons with Syracuse University. He played his first collegiate season at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa. He missed the 2025 season rehabbing an injury. He started every game at guard in 2024 and had 11 starts at right tackle in 2023.

Global Draft Round 2 (16th overall, Global) P Josh Burgess – Texas Tech (6’3″, 210 lbs.)

The Alouettes drafted Australian punter Josh Burgess in the 2nd round of the Global Draft. He played his last 2 seasons for Texas Tech, where he punted 89 times, averaging 42.9 yards per punt with 38 inside the 20 and 16 50+ yard punts. He played for Weber State in 2022 and 2023, appearing in 24 games and punting 100 times for an average of 44.1 yards. He was named All-Big Sky Honorable Mention in 2023 and was a finalist for the FCS Punter of the Year.
