PR: CFLPA Academy Announces New Partnership with Ontario Tech University

TORONTO, ON – The CFLPA Academy and Ontario Tech University have established a new partnership aimed at helping address the diverse needs of the CFLPA membership as they transition to the life after Football.

This exciting new partnership will leverage Ontario Tech University’s expansive listing of degree programs, graduate diplomas and certificates to help provide CFLPA members with the knowledge and skill sets to enter new workforces. Specifically, it will allow CFLPA Academy members to pursue post-secondary education in new fields of interest—with a focus on technology and education skills that are in demand in today’s market.

Since opening in 2003, Ontario Tech University has earned a strong academic reputation, including a top-10 Canadian ranking in Engineering. The university offers a technology-enriched learning environment with a commitment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and professional degree offerings, and an impressive and growing suite of innovative social science, humanities, education, and arts programs.

As the Academy has grown, since its inception in 2016, CFLPA members have expressed a strong desire for advanced degrees to continue complementing a growing suite of academic and professional resources. The Academy has partnered with a number educational and workforce training institutions; online, in Canada and in the United States, to successfully deliver CFLPA members opportunities to enhance both their knowledge and practical skills.

“Ontario Tech University is excited to partner with the CFLPA Academy in providing graduate education opportunities to players and their families. We are confident that our flexible, synchronous engaging programs in Education with a 95 per cent graduation rate will be the ideal match for CFLPA professionals who have busy, demanding lives and schedules.”

Since we began the Academy, it has become evident that our membership has unique and diverse interests outside of football. Most, if not all of our CFLPA members, arrive in professional football with significant undergraduate experience. This partnership with Ontario Tech University will allow our Academy to provide new pathways for our members to continue pursuing those passions that brought them to the CFL.”
