Roughriders Ink Top Undrafted Free Agent Ryan Berta, One Other

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed National offensive lineman Ryan Berta and American offensive lineman D’Mitri Emmanuel.

Berta was one of the top remaining undrafted free agents who went unselected in Tuesday’s 2024 CFL draft. The six-foot-two, 307-pound centre was a massive part of the Gael’s OUA leading rushing attack over the last two years. The Hamilton, Ontario native was named an OUA Second-Team All-Star in 2022, before claiming OUA First-Team All-Star honours last season, while also being named a Usports Second-Team All-Canadian.

The 23-year-old had a fantastic combine as well, putting up the most reps on the bench press by any player at the combine (30), while finishing top ten among offensive linemen in the forty-yard dash (5.39), shuttle (4.78 seconds), and broad jump (eight feet and six inches).

Emmanuel comes to Riderville with no professional experience after spending the last two seasons at Florida State University. The six-foot-two, 309-pound stalwart started in 27 games as a Seminole at every position except centre. In his senior year, Emmanuel helped Florida State’s offence lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring offense, total touchdowns, and rushing touchdowns while earning First-Team All-ACC and Fourth Team All-American honours.

Before playing in the ACC, the 25-year-old put on the pads for the University of Northern Carolina, Charlotte starting in 24 consecutive games. Also, in 2019 Emmanuel was named the All-Conference USA Third Team.
