BC Lions to Host REDBLACKS in Victoria’s Touchdown Pacific 2024

The Canadian Football League (CFL), the BC Lions, and the City of Victoria are excited to announce Touchdown Pacific, the latest event in the CFL’s efforts to expand the game across Canada.

Key Points:

  • Touchdown Pacific 2024 will see the BC Lions hosting the Ottawa REDBLACKS in Victoria.
  • The event continues the CFL’s initiative to grow the sport nationally, following the success of Touchdown Atlantic.
  • Royal Athletic Park in Victoria will be expanded to accommodate 10,000-14,000 fans for this special event.

Touchdown Pacific, set for August 31, 2024, as part of the OK Tire Labour Day Weekend, represents a significant move by the CFL to engage new communities and fan bases. Following the impactful Touchdown Atlantic series, which generated over $10M in economic impact, Touchdown Pacific aims to further the legacy of the CFL’s outreach efforts.

The event will be held at Royal Athletic Park, just outside downtown Victoria, offering an expanded venue to welcome a large audience. This marks an important step for the CFL in supporting grassroots development and connecting with different regions across Canada.

Commissioner Randy Ambrosie expressed his excitement, stating, “This is a special day for Canadian football…the CFL is their league, too.” He highlighted the series’ role in building bridges and ensuring the future of Canadian football.

The Touchdown Series’ first venture into the West Coast aligns with the BC Lions’ season and the upcoming 111th Grey Cup and 2024 Grey Cup Festival in November, hosted by British Columbia.

BC Lions Owner Amar Doman stated “Our organization is extremely proud to host Touchdown Pacific while continuing the CFL’s tradition of staging regular season games in new and passionate markets. We have long stated that the Lions are British Columbia’s team and being born and raised in Victoria, I am honoured to have the opportunity to see our team play in the provincial capital. The fact Touchdown Pacific adds a new dynamic to Labour Day Weekend in the CFL is just icing on the cake.”

Further details about Touchdown Pacific 2024, including ticketing and community events, will be announced later.
