There are more rumors out there, including the potential signing of Tommy Nield. But at the point of writing this, he has not yet out pen to paper with the Bombers. So here are the confirmed signings since my last article:
Mike Smith Jr
“In 2024, Smith joined the BC Lions’ practice roster following his release from the NFL and later signed a futures contract for the 2025 season. He was released following the Lions’ 2025 training camp.
Smith signed with the Indianapolis Colts in August 2024, attended training camp, and appeared in one preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In his lone season at Baylor, Smith started all five games he appeared in, recording 24 tackles (17 solo, seven assists) and one sack.
Smith began his NCAA career at Liberty, starting all 12 games. He posted 85 tackles (45 solo, 40 assists), one interception for 22 yards, and a half-sack.
Before the NCAA, Smith played three seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (2019–21).” (Source)
Stanley Bryant
This signing is not loved by all Bomber fans. Some believe that Stanley Bryant is just too old. Buy his own admission, Bryant will be 40 years of age in a couple of months.
““So, my body will be good and things like that. But, no, answering the age issues is no issue. I think it’s a good thing that I’m able to have this conversation and be able to play at the age of 40. You never know, it can inspire someone to want to continue whatever they’re doing. It can be football, it could be, I don’t know, wanting to be an accountant or whatever they want to be at whatever age they’re at now. It can inspire them to want to continue to do it and get to that milestone.” (Source)
But let us look at some facts. Bryant suited up for 200 regular season games with the Bombers; which happens to be the sixth most in Bomber history. Another fact is that consistency is key on the offensive line. If we want to criticize the Bombers’ offense in 2025 that would be very fair. What might not be as fair is to say that Bryant alone was the issue. After the 2025 season, and even towards the end of it, there was clear frustration from Bombers’ quarterback Zach Collaros.
Mush of that frustration came from the offensive play calling of Jason Hogan. But that issue has been resolved as Hogan is no longer with the team. Major Moves Made By Bombers In Coaching Staff
Kyrie Wilson
“Wilson is coming off one of the best campaigns of his career, having suited up for all 18 regular season games and the Eastern Semi-Final while registering 49 defensive tackles, added two more on special teams, along with three sacks and two forced fumbles.” (Source)
And let us not forget his one interception that he has. This interception was huge! It won the Bombers they Grey Cup in 2021.
Tim White
I have been waiting for the Bombers to start making a splash with receivers. Quite frankly, whatever you think about the offensive play calling in 2025, the receiving group was just not good enough. So I was not surprised to see the Bombers be aggressive this offseason.
“And it turns out the aggressive sales pitch delivered to Tim White by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers over the last few days was enough to have him ultimately stiff-arm the offers from other suitors and scribble his name on a new contract to come to Manitoba in 2026.” (Source)
It was clear that the Bombers worked hard to get White. Sometime it is just the GM calling to try and win a player over. But not this year with the Bombers and White. ““… Man, I mean, I would say, overall, this team is stacked with great leadership. So when they heard there was interest and that there was communication, a lot of guys reached out. Brady (Oliveira), Nic Demski, Willie Jefferson, all those guys they reached out. And when they were doing that, it kind of made me understand like, yeah, this is why they have winning football over here. It’s because those guys do care and they want you to step in here and bring something to the table. And I believe I can do that for them.” (Source)
White is a receiver, he can run the ball, and he can also return kicks. Having a versatile player like that on the team is crucial in the case of a different player’s injury.

Schoen Not Returning
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will not be re-signing star receiver Dalton Schoen, sources tell the Free Press.
The pending free agent isn’t expected to be ready for game action until the fall as he’s still recovering from surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. Schoen tore the ACL in Calgary back on July 3, rehabbed for six weeks, and attempted to play through it in the Labour Day Classic in Regina before realizing it wasn’t doable.” (Source)
This decision was likely made before the Bombers announced it, and likely during the time the Bombers were looking at signing White. I believe that this is a key reason that the Bombers signed White.
Final Thoughts
While I started with the American linebacker Mike Smith Jr, this is the most unknown signing in this group. Will Smith Jr. be any good? Will he even crack the active roster? Who knows. NCAA stats do not always tell the story of how a guy will transition to the CFL. Having said that, his NCAA stats are good, 85 tackles (45 solo, 40 assists).
Stanley Bryant will be the signing is this group that will be the most scrutinized. Should he have a great season everyone will say the Bombers knew what they were doing. However, should he struggle and get beat often, the fans will say he is too old and the Bombers are loyal to a fault.
Kyrie Wilson, seems like a no-brainer. Not just because of what he did in the 2021 Grey Cup, but also because of his 2025 campaign. The Bombers are working towards keeping consistency while upgrading necessary positions.
That takes us to Time White. It was clear that the Bombers’ 2025 experiment at receiver was a failure. The Bombers had signed Addison, but it took him forever to crack the roster, and once he did, he was not there for a long time. I think the story is going to be far different with White. And while I like the White signing, I am still looking for the Bombers to sign more receivers. In 2025, after the Bombers experienced some injuries at the position, there lack of depth was highly visible. I do not expect the Bombers to make the same mistake this year.

Good comments. I like the moves they made for the most part. Kyrie – yes he had his best year & actually got in 18 games. But he is 33. Where you can go back & talk about an interception in 2021, you can also look at 2025 & see Alexander running around him for a crucial 1st down in the final drive of the semi-final. No offence, but Kyrie is another like Streveler much beloved by the Wpg faithful that has been injury prone. Surely you can find a younger guy than him. He’s played 8 games or less in 5 of his 8 seasons.
If Ceresna works out that would be the biggest signing IMO. But he’s 32, coming off a major injury & a subpar outing even prior to the injury. Fingers crossed.
Since 2022 in each of those 3 losing GC’s, the “experts” cited the main reason the Bombers lost was they were outmatched in the trenches. Too many old players. Does Bryant (& Neufeld) have another decent year like 2025 or was that a blip &, at their age, they revert to 2024? Broxton’s signing was huge & the Bombers look better with the add-ons. But Edmonton is loading up & handled the Bombers quite nicely when they needed a win to clinch a playoff & they were playing with 5 starters missing on Defence. The Elks have 11 of their 12 young players on D coming back. Don’t know about Calgary but the Lions & Riders still look better than the Bombers at this point as well. Long way to go, lots can happen. But it’s nice to see they have realized that changes need to be made.
