Edmonton Elks Add Fifth QB Khalil Tate To 2022 Roster

As reported by 630 CHED’s, Dave Campbell, the Edmonton Elks have signed University of Arizona alumni, Khalil Tate. Undrafted in 2020, Tate had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles where they attempted to convert him to the wide receiver position.

Khalil Tate who can complete the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds, stands 6’0″ and weighs 216 lbs. He brings to the Elks another dual-threat passer and rusher. Tate in 2017, after coming in to relieve Arizona’s starting QB, rushed for a NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) QB-record 327 yards. That record was previously held by Elks alumni and 2015 Grey Cup Champion, Jordan Lynch. Over his four years as a Wildcat, Tate threw for 6318 yards and 57 TDs. He also rushed for 2285 yards and 18 TDs.

GM/HC Chris Jones is obviously looking to add some serious competition at the QB position when the Elks training camp opens in May 2022. Currently in the QB herd are Nick Arbuckle, Taylor Cornelius, Dakota Prukop, and Kai Locksley.

It is predicted that the Elks will look to support projected starter, Nick Arbuckle, with a change of pace QB who can handle short yardage and tilt the pace of the game as required. It’s very unlikely that all five of these QBs will appear at camp this spring. It would be surprising to see both Prukop or Cornelius back in Green & Gold after their sub-par performance in the Fall of 2021.
