Edmonton Elks Fantasy Free Agent Draft with CFL Great – Jed Roberts – PART 2 – THE RESULTS

Back in early January, I sat down with Elks Alumni, Jed Roberts. We looked at the CFL Free Agent pool for 2022 and we each drafted our Edmonton Elks fantasy team for 2022. Now that the majority of free agents have been scooped up during a busy week of signings in the CFL, it’s time to look at who is the most dominant fantasy GM in the City of Champions. Will the victor be, the retired CFL Special Teams guru – Jed Roberts? Afterall, he is a 2nd generation CFLer, the all-time leading special teams tackler in @elks team history and UNC Alumnus. Or will the victor be, the retired M.E. LaZerte High School back-up quarterback, 1992 High School Football City Champion and ace CFL News Hub Elks beat reporter? Let’s revisit the picks and see who will wear the badge of pride (and win a six-pack of Rutting Elk Red Beer). Readers who need a review of the rules, please visit the original article published on January 12th, 2022. (HEY PRESIDENT CUI, NOTICE HOW MANY TIMES I FIT “VICTOR” INTO THIS ARTICLE? lol)

THE RESULTS

Team Roberts (Grey Cup Champ & Elks Alumni)

Juwan Brescacin (WR – Toronto) – Tough as nails receiver with a ratio-breaking skill-set. RE-SIGNED BY THE ARGOS

Micah Johnson (DL – Saskatchewan) – Micah and Almondo Sewell are the most dominant one technique players in the CFL. SIGNED BY HAMILTON

Dexter McCoil (LB – Toronto) – Reunite Dexter with his mentor Chris Jones and watch as he disrupts offensive game plans. RETIRED

Brandon Banks (KR – Hamilton) – He brings a long dormant return game back to life in Edmonton. STILL UNSIGNED (no points awarded yet)

Simoni Lawrence (LB -Hamilton) – Has the best range of any linebacker in the CFL over the past 20 years. RE-SIGNED BY HAMILTON

Jeremiah Masoli (QB – Hamilton) – He can beat you with his arm and his legs, and Edmonton wins with him backed by a staunch run game and a stifling defense. SIGNED BY THE REDBLACKS

James Wilder Jr (RB – Edmonton) – He shines as a runner when it’s warm in the summer and when its cold in the winter. RE-SIGNED BY THE ELKS – 1 POINT TO JED

Kwaku Boateng (DE- Edmonton) – He is a ratio busting defensive end who is a must to re-sign in Edmonton. SIGNED BY THE REDBLACKS

Matt O’Donnell (OL – Edmonton) – He is the leader of the Offensive line and room in Edmonton. RETIRED

Justin Lawrence (OL – Calgary) – Hometown kid who provides depth for the interior line. SIGNED BY THE ARGOS

Team Paquette (Former Back-up High School QB)

Zach Collaros (QB – Winnipeg) – Just to tick off the Winnipeg fans and to give Nick Arbuckle a quality back-up. RE-SIGNED BY THE BLUE BOMBERS

Bear Woods (LB – Toronto) – Price will be right, plus come on…the Elks need a LB with a super cool name. RETIRED

Kenny Lawler (WR – Winnipeg) – CFL’s #1 WR in 2021 who will give Arbuckle (or Collaros) some fresh options for the re-vamped Elks offence. OHHH YEAHHH…SIGNED BY THE ELKS – 1 POINT PAQUETTE

Ka’Deem Carey (RB – Calgary) – I can’t choose Wilder Jr, so I might as well punish the Stampeders by stealing this up and coming CFL bruiser. RE-SIGNED BY THE EVIL CALGARY STAMPEDERS

Stanley Bryant (OL – Winnipeg) – 2021 Offensive Lineman of the year, the Elks need to improve in the trenches. RE-SIGNED BY THE BLUE BOMBERS

Monshadrik “Money” Hunter (DB – Montreal) – A young and entertaining ball hawk who is good for a few key interceptions each year. SIGNED BY THE REDBLACKS

Alexandre Gagné (FB – Montreal) – Canadian with 18 special teams tackles in 2021. RE-SIGNED BY MONTREAL

Frankie Williams (DB/KR – Hamilton) – Fast, flexible and could add a serious boost to the Elks return game. STILL UNSIGNED (no points awarded yet)

Kerfalla-Emmanuel Exumé (DB – Montreal) – Canadian special teams specialist (Note: I can’t believe Jed didn’t draft any Canadian special teams tacklers). RE-SIGNED BY MONTREAL

Adam Bighill (LB – Winnipeg) – Sorry Bombers fans, he took a 145k pay cut last year, time is ticking on this star to cash in on a big contract with the Green & Gold. RE-SIGNED BY THE BLUE BOMBERS

FINAL SCORE: Jed -1 Paquette – 1

No one likes a tie in the CFL. So, with Brandon Banks & Frankie Williams still dangling in the world of the unsigned, there is still a gap in the Elks kick return game. Both of these players could add a boost to Edmonton’s Special Teams. So for now Mr. Roberts, we wait…(pssst…Mr. Chris Jones…sign Williams. Returners named Williams tend to do well in Edmonton.)
