Former Ottawa Draft Pick Playing in Super Bowl

Canada’s own Michael Hoecht once drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks, is appearing in the Super Bowl as a depth piece on the Los Angeles Rams.

Michael Hoecht is an interesting player to say the least. He is a Canadian born defensive tackle who stands 6’4 310 lbs. He was born in Oakville, Ontario but stayed until he was just 4 years old before his family would move to Dayton, Ohio. Shortly before high school his family bounced back to Ontario where he attended 2 years of high school at Stittsville. Later his family moved once again to Ohio allowing to finish out high school in Ohio at Oakwood High School.

After graduating high school Hoecht would attend Brown an Ivy League College. In four seasons he played in 37 games collecting 174 tackles, 29.5 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries. This led him to gain NFL, and CFL attention. He would go undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft but watch his name be called in the 2020 CFL Draft in the 2nd round by the Ottawa Redblacks.

However Hoecht spurned his country of berth attempting to latch on with the NFL Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent. His decision was helped by the CFL canceling its 2020 season. Ultimately he was cut during final cuts, but was immediately signed to the practice squad. He spent the entire season on the practice squad before signing a futures deal following the 2020 season. He would return to the Rams in 2021 making the active roster and collecting 7 tackles on his way to a Super Bowl Appearence.

I began writing years ago out of an obsession with the NFL. I never intended to take it anywhere but after watching so many others succeed as freelance writers I decided it was worth a shot. I jumped I and have loved every minute of it. I have expanded my content to include YouTube, as well as Twitter Spaces, SoundCloud, and should be launching on Amazon Podcasts soon.
