Hamilton Tiger-Cats Sign 2023 CFL Global Draft Pick Linebacker Penei Pavihi, Two American Kickers

As they head into training camp, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed four players to their roster. Hamilton signed the 2023 CFL Global Draft 1st Round selection Penei Pavihi, American kickers Ethan Ratke and Peyton Henry, and American defensive back Lummie Young IV. Along with signing new players, Hamilton released former 2021 CFL Draft first overall draft pick Jake Burt and American wide receiver Bralon Addison. Veteran offensive lineman Chris Van Zeyl has also returned to the list of injured veteran players.


2023 Global draft pick, linebacker Penei Pavihi is a 6’3″, 245-pound linebacker from Tafuna, American Samoa. Pavihi played college football at the University of Hawaii from 2017 until 2022. During his five seasons, Pavihi played 60 games for the Rainbow Warriors. He accumulated 233 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, one recovered fumble, and two interceptions.


Ethan Ratke is a 5’10”, 186-pound kicker from Mechanicsville, Virginia. Ratke played college football at James Madison University from 2017 until 2021 and in 58 games for the Dukes. During four seasons, he became the NCAA’s all-time leader in career field goals with 101 on 117 attempts and scoring by a kicker with 542 points.


Peyton Henry is a 5’11”, 201-pound kicker from Danville, California. He played college football at the University of Washington from 2018 until 2022. During the 2022 season, Henry played in 13 games and had an 86.4% field goal and 98.3 % extra point percentages. Throughout 56 games for the Huskies, he made 71 field goals on 88 attempts and successfully kicked 189 extra points.


Lummie Young IV is a 6’1″, 200-pound defensive back from Anderson, South Carolina. Young IV started his college football career at Duke University from 2017 until 2021. While playing for the Blue Devils, he played in 34 games and started 17 of those games; he had 145 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions, eight pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. In 2022, he played for Tulane and produced 34 solo tackles, 18 assists, .5 tackles for loss, one interception, and three pass breakups.


National fullback/tight end/wide receiver Jake Burt and American wide receiver Bralon Addison are the most recent veteran players to be released from the Tiger-Cats this pre-season.


Jake Burt is a former number-one overall draft pick for the Tiger-Cats in the 2021 CFL draft. The 6’3″, 230-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan, played in 10 games for Hamilton during the 2022 season. Burt had four catches for 40 yards during those ten games.


Bralon Addison is a 5’9″, 197-pound native of Missouri City, Texas, and played college football at Oregon. Addison spent four seasons with the Tiger-Cats from 2018 until 2022. During the 2022 season, he played in eight games and had 43 catches for 433 yards and eight rushing attempts for 12 yards. During the 2022 season, Addison missed several games with injuries.
