Linebacker Aaron Hansford Brings Promise and Potential to the Tiger-Cats

The Tiger-Cats continue to sign players to their training camp roster at important positions to build quality depth at those positions. Defensively, the Tiger-Cats signed American defensive back Caleb Biggers last week, and according to the CFL transactions list, they have now signed American linebacker Aaron Hansford. The defensive backfield and linebackers groups have been positions that the Tiger-Cats have been addressing this off-season and continue to address with the 2024 season approaching quickly.

Hansford is a 6’3″, 240-pound linebacker from Washington, D.C. The Washington D.C. native played college football at Texas A&M from 2016 until 2021. While playing for the Aggies, Hansford recorded 157 total tackles and seven quarterback sacks, and he also played a limited amount at wide receiver, catching three passes for 39 yards. During his senior year in 2021, Hansford had 85 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, deflected four passes, and recovered two fumbles including one that he returned for a touchdown.

After college football, the Dallas Cowboys signed Hansford as an undrafted free agent in 2022. During the 2023 USFL season, Hansford played nine games for the Memphis Showboats, recording ten tackles and one quarterback sack. If Hansford can earn a spot on the Tiger-Cats 2024 roster, this could be his opportunity to show his value on the professional level.

Coming out of college, the scouting report on Hansford stated that he was athletic and played well in space. His weaknesses were related to his ability to recognize run reads and play man-to-man pass coverage. Hansford’s ability to play well in space could make him a great candidate to play an outside linebacker position for the Tiger-Cats.
