Jeff Reinebold Refutes Reports That He Is Leaving Hamilton

Jeff Reinebold released a statement to the Hamilton Spectator to refute reports that he will leave Hamilton Tiger-Cats to join head coach Timmy Chang’s coaching staff at the University of Hawaii. Yesterday, multiple sources, including 3 Down Nation, reported that Reinebold would leave his special teams coordinator position with the Tiger-Cats to take a position at the University of Hawaii. The CFL News Hub works to provide fans with the most accurate and up-to-date information about changes to CFL teams, which requires clarification of this situation involving Jeff Reinebold.

Based on Reinebold’s statement, here is a summary of what led to this report. The 66-year-old coach lives in Hawaii during the CFL offseason and has been assisting with the University of Hawaii football program and head coach Timmy Chang. Reinebold said, “Timmy and I have talked – I have been helping him with his offseason program – I think he would like me to come here, but at this time, there is no contract on the table.” So, Reinebold has been working with the University of Hawaii head coach but has not accepted an offer to coach with the Rainbow Warriors.

Reinebold has a history of coaching at the University of Hawaii, as detailed by the CFL News Hub yesterday. Included in the refuted report was the specification that Reinebold would be coaching nose guards and defensive tackles for Hawaii, which is an oddly specific position for a report resulting from a misunderstanding. The conflict of reports indicates we will need to continue to monitor this situation to see if Reinebold’s initial report was incorrect or if Reinebold’s denial of the decision was a strategy on his part.

Jeff Reinebold is still the special teams coordinator for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but is helping with the University of Hawaii and head coach Timmy Chang.

Update: @FarhanLaljiTSN has confirmed with a tweet that Jeff Reinebold has accepted a contract to return to the Hawaii football coaching staff.
