Montreal Alouettes Secure Defensive Lineman Mustafa Johnson Through 2025

The Montreal Alouettes have confirmed a significant retention within their ranks, announcing the contract extension of American defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson. A crucial figure in their defensive lineup, Johnson’s contract has been extended for two years, ensuring his presence on the roster until the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Since hoisting the trophy at the 110th Grey Cup, the Alouettes have engaged in strategic moves to maintain the core of their championship-winning team, similar to the recent extensions of quarterback Cody Fajardo, defensive lineman Shawn Lemon, and linebacker Darnell Sankey.

During the regular season, the 6’2″, 290-pound Johnson demonstrated his defensive prowess across 18 games. His statistics are noteworthy: he recorded 43 defensive tackles, secured seven quarterback sacks, and notched a fumble recovery, which he converted into a touchdown. Acknowledging his performance, Johnson was honored as an East Division All-Star.

The 24-year-old lineman’s journey with the Alouettes began in 2022 when he joined the team and made immediate contributions. Over eight games in his debut season, Johnson tallied two sacks and 18 defensive tackles. His early performance set high expectations, which he managed to exceed the following year.

When reflecting on his new deal with the Alouettes, Johnson expressed his enthusiasm. “I am glad to be back with the Alouettes. I feel like Montreal is my home, and I appreciate the confidence that the team puts in me,” he stated and also emphasized his anticipation for future successes. “I look forward to working with the team to win another championship. There is a lot of talent in this locker room,” added Johnson.

The Alouettes, by securing Johnson’s presence for the next seasons, are consolidating a robust defensive line capable of propelling the team towards continued CFL success. Fans can expect a relentless defender who has already proven his merit and appears set to elevate his game even further in the years to come.

With the team’s focus now shifting towards the upcoming season, the extension of Johnson’s contract is a clear signal that the Alouettes are invested in stability and continuity as they aim to add more titles to their storied legacy in the Canadian Football League.
