Roughriders Ink All-American Punter Joe Couch

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Global punter Joe Couch.

The Torquay, Victoria, Australia native comes to Riderville after spending three seasons at Ouachita Baptist University, a Division II program located in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The five-foot-eleven, 210-pound punter booted a football 76 times, earning 3,397 yards, punting for an average of 44.7 yards per kick. The Australian launched 26 punts for over 50 yards with a career-long of 63 yards. He also landed 30 punts inside the 20-yard line.

In 2022, Couch was named to the D2CCA All-American Second Team, the D2CCA All-Region First Team, and the All-Great American Conference First Team. In 2023, the Aussie earned Second Team All-Great American Conference honours, while earning an invitation to the  College Gridiron Showcase.

Interestingly, before attending Ouachita Baptist, Couch played Australian rules football for Geelong College in Australia. He will have stiff competition for a roster spot, however, as the Roughriders 2023 first-round pick in the Global draft Adam Korsak is coming off of a phenomenal rookie season where he led the CFL in yards per punt (47.9), posting the second-best single-season average in Roughriders history.
