Stellar Performances in Week 8: Dane Evans, Kabion Ento, and BC Lions’ Offensive Line Shine in CFL

Week 8 of the Canadian Football League (CFL) witnessed a trio of top-tier performances from Kabion Ento, Dane Evans, and the BC Lions’ offensive line. This honourable mention is powered by Pro Football Focus (PFF), which employs an extensive review of game footage, providing a unique and comprehensive perspective on each action on the field.

PFF uses over 200 unique data points gathered from each game, player, and play to construct Player Grades – a numerical score up-to-100 that represents performance at a specific position. This data-driven method sheds light on every player’s performance, taking into account their respective position requirements.

In Week 8, the standouts were BC Lions’ quarterback Dane Evans on offence, Montreal Alouettes‘ Kabion Ento on defence, and the collective BC Lions’ offensive line. These exceptional performances earned them the top individual Player Grades for their respective positions.

Offensive Player of the Week

QB Dane Evans (BC Lions) PFF Player Grade: 90.1 In his first start of 2023, Dane Evans delivered a remarkable performance, completing 25-of-32 passes (78.1%) for 330 yards and two touchdowns. His highest pass, a 55-yard effort to Alexander Hollins, helped him achieve a 130.5 efficiency rating.

Defensive Player of the Week

DB Kabion Ento (Montreal Alouettes) PFF Player Grade: 91.8 Kabion Ento excelled in his 54 total defensive snaps, including a 53-yard interception returned for a touchdown. Along with three defensive tackles and two pass knockdowns, Ento’s coverage snaps grade of 91.8 led to his Player of the Week recognition.

Offensive Line of the Week

BC Lions PFF Unit Grade: 71.8 The BC Lions’ offensive line demonstrated their strength in Week 8. The top three performers were Jarrell Broxton (73.7), Michael Couture (72.7), and Kent Perkins (63.3), contributing to the team’s collective success.

Additionally, we highlight the highest graded players from each of the nine position groups as part of the All-Week 8 team, which includes top performers from teams across the league, like AJ Ouellette from the Toronto Argonauts and Woody Baron from the BC Lions.

These standout performances of Week 8 add to a list of top offensive and defensive performances of 2023, where Kabion Ento and Dane Evans sit among the likes of Chad Kelly, Royce Metchie, and Zach Collaros.

As the 2023 CFL season continues, we eagerly anticipate the unfolding of player progress, team dynamics, and the exciting showdowns each week brings.
