Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Ottawa Redblacks Set for Key Showdown in CFL Week 7

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Ottawa Redblacks are scheduled to play this week. Each team is trying to scramble up the East Division standings, and the game is going to determine a lot for the early playoffs.

Hamilton just faced a narrow loss to the BC Lions. In that game, a lot of turnovers and red-zone struggles kept them from pulling off the upset. Their quarterback, Bo Levi Mitchell, is still adjusting to the Tiger-Cats’ system after his season of many injuries in 2024, yet he seems to be the key to Hamilton’s success. When Mitchell protects the football, the Tiger-Cats move the chains. When he doesn’t, they collapse.

Canadian sportsbook sites have taken notice, using the chance to get bettors to play in exchange for big bonuses and very fast payouts. Oddsmakers have Hamilton as a slight favorite since the Tiger-Cats have the home-field advantage and Ottawa has been consistently inconsistent. The game will be watched intently by many across the nation, as they debate whether Hamilton’s offense can finally break out or if Ottawa’s defense will rise to the occasion.

Ottawa has not had an easy season. Theirs has been a rollercoaster if nothing else. They had a partially dominant defence against Saskatchewan last week, but they gave up too many big plays in the fourth quarter. The Ottawa quarterback, Dru Brown, is talented and a very promising player, but can he carry the team through intense adversity? Another star this season is the team’s running back, Ryquell Armstead. His skills will be helpful needed to balancing the offence against Hamilton’s front seven.

Beyond the quarterbacks, special teams could place the game in either team’s hands. Hamilton’s return game has been sudden and fierce at times this season, and if they can turn the field on Ottawa, it could tilt the balance in their favor. Ottawa’s kicker Lewis Ward remains one of the league’s most accurate, giving the Redblacks a steady option in close games.

Hamilton hopes to get their linebacker Jameer Thurman back on the field since he missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. Ottawa’s offensive line is not yet as strong as it could be, a concern against Hamilton’s relentless pass rush led by Ja’Gared Davis and Mason Bennett.

Player prop bets could be valuable. Bettors are watching Hamilton wideout Tim White, who’s been quiet the last two weeks but has the speed to break a big play. On the Ottawa side, keep an eye on receiver Justin Hardy, Brown’s most consistent target when drives stall.

The Toronto Argonauts are currently leading the division, and the Montreal Alouettes are second-place. Both Hamilton and Ottawa are fighting to catch up to the top two. A win for either side Saturday won’t change anything, but it could provide a much-needed spark as the CFL season approaches its midpoint.
