The Toronto Argonauts Remain Favourites to Defend Last Season’s Grey Cup Triumph

This season’s CFL is set to kick off at 9 pm, June 5th, at the Mosaic Stadium, where the Ottawa Redblacks face off against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Canadian football fans will enjoy the return of match betting markets, and those confident in how their teams have lined up during the preseason can also back the overall winner of the 2025 Grey Cup.

Defending champions, the Toronto Argonauts, are currently priced at 7/2 to retain their title, narrowly ahead of defeated finalists the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who are priced at 11/2. Based on these odds, players would be able to get a piece of the action while enjoying sports betting bonuses in Canada. Online sports betting expert James Briscoe explains that the top Canadian sportsbooks offer a variety of bonuses and promotions, helping fans enjoy better value for their money.

Can the Argonauts Continue Their Winning Streak?

Despite the Argonauts finishing second to the Montreal Alouettes in the East Division’s 2024 regular season, they were able to drive on and defeat them by 30 to 28 in the division finals. They were joined in the Grey Cup by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who comfortably defeated the West Division’s second-place finisher, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, by 38 to 22.

This was the fifth season in a row that the Blue Bombers made it to the Grey Cup, having been successful in 2019 and 2021, and losing out in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Like the 2022 cup final, the Argonauts were victorious, but it was a much more comprehensive win this time around, with their score of 41 to 24 eclipsing that of their 2022, 24 to 23 victory.

Argonauts’ head coach Ryan Dinwiddie has brought in Ryan Collins and Dorian Anderson in recent days to strengthen his roster, with Quincy Mauger being released. The coach will be confident that keeping the nucleus of last season’s successful team will be enough to see them win again, and the sportsbooks agree.

The Other Contenders

Having been a fixture in recent Grey Cup finals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look to be the biggest threat to the Argonauts’ hopes of winning two years in a row.

Brady Oliveira could be the man to make all the difference following a great season that saw him lead the league with a rushing grade of 83.4, with 153 missed tackles being forced and 4,530 rushing yards over the last three seasons.

Outside the two favourites, the British Columbia Lions and Montreal Alouettes are both priced at around 13/2, proving that they have a great chance of upsetting things and making it to the 2025 Grey Cup.

Propping up the rest of the CFL’s contenders are the Calgary Stampeders, who are priced at 30/1 to pull off a major shock. With their closest rivals, the Hamilton Tigercats and the EDM Elks, priced at around 10/1, it would be a big ask for the Stampeders to turn the season on its head.
