Frankfurt Galaxy Dominate In Week 2 Win Over Stuttgart Surge

Full game Highlights

On Saturday, June 27th, the Frankfurt Galaxy (0-1) headed to Stuttgart to take on the Surge (1-0) for a fairly one-sided week 2 matchup. The Galaxy dominated the entire 1st half, and while Stuttgart would finally find a rhythm in the 2nd half, Frankfurt remained in control for the entire game. The Galaxy would end up beating the Surge 42-20, and both teams’ records would move to 1-1 on the year.

Recap

The Galaxy, led by quarterback Jakeb Sullivan, began with the ball to start the game. They’d start hot, getting a few good runs by Sullivan and a couple of great catches by wide receivers Lorenz Regler and Cheikhou Sow to get into the red zone. Running back Gennadiy Adams would cap off the drive with a 1-yard rushing touchdown for Frankfurt to take an early lead, going up 7-0.

The Surge took the field with quarterback Jacob Wright leading the way. Unfortunately, it would take the entire first half for Stuttgart to find any type of rhythm. They’d go 3 and out on their first drive and punt the ball away.

Frankfurt came back out and picked up right where they left off. Running back Gennadiy Adams would get a huge 60-yard run and tackled at the 1-yard line. Adams would punch it in the endzone to finish off the drive, but the Galaxy missed the PAT. This would increase the lead to 13-0 nearing the end of the 1st quarter.

Following another Stuttgart drive stalling out, Frankfurt quarterback Jakeb Sullivan would find wide receiver Marvin Rutsch for a touchdown from 1-yard out to go up 20-0 early in the 2nd quarter.

With the Stuttgart offense stalling out on yet another drive, the Galaxy quickly found themselves back in the red zone. Jakeb Sullivan would find wide receiver Lorenz Regler on a 35-yard play to set them up inside the 5-yard line. Regler capped off the drive with a short touchdown to bring the score to 27-0 as the game approached halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Stuttgart Surge finally began to put some offense together. Surge quarterback Jacob Wright would find David Meza for a nice play to get the drive started, followed by a few nice runs by Wright. Running back Samuel Shannon finished the drive with a fantastic run from 29-yards out, spinning around defenders in the backfield and taking it for Stuttgart’s first points of the game, making the score 27-7.

As the 3rd quarter came to a close, Frankfurt backup quarterback, Moritz Johannknecht would find Marvin Rutsch, who made a phenomenal 29-yard catch between 2 defenders. The play would set up a rushing touchdown by Johannknecht on a read-option; they’d extend the score to 33-7 following another missed PAT. The Galaxy added a field goal on their next drive, increasing the lead to 36-7.

Following the Frankfurt field goal, Surge quarterback Jacob Wright would find David Meza yet again for a great play to set them up inside the 5-yard line. Wright ran it in for a touchdown, and their score was increased to 36-14.

Jakeb Sullivan returned to the game for the Galaxy, and Rutsch continued to be the favorite target. The offense put together a fantastic drive, finding Rutsch on a well-executed screen pass that would go for 37 yards and a nice grab by Noah Bomba to set them up near the red zone. Running back Gerald Ameln would cap off the drive with a 15-yard rushing touchdown push the game well out of reach at 42-14.

On their final drive, Jacob Wright and the Surge found wide receiver Domenik Rofalski on a 19-yard play, followed by wide receiver Pascal Floser hauling in a 22-yard catch and taking a massive hit. Wright capped off the drive with a final touchdown to Alexander Eitel from 13-yards out, making the final score 42-20.

While the Surge showed flashes of good execution in the second half, the Galaxy remained well in control of the game. Both teams will move to 1-1 on the year.
