With the Bombers dropping their second straight game against Saskatchewan, fans are looking for answers and rightfully so. However, the issue is not with the Bombers’ defense.
Going into the game, the Bombers were best in the CFL in limiting their opponent’s to just over a 60% completion percentage. However, they were near the bottom of the CFL is allowing big plays. Yet, the Bombers defense is not the reason that they are loosing games.

When you limit you opponent, and the best team in the CFL, to those stat lines…you should be winning. However, when you – the Bombers – put up zero points in the second half, you just cannot hope to win games.

It did not help that Castillo missed two field goal attempts. But Castillo is not the reason the Bombers are losing games either. In fact, one could rightfully argue that Castillo is the reason the Bombers won some of their games. But it is the rest of the offence that is the issue. Collaros is sixth in passing yards and in passing touchdowns. The Bombers are just not able to put up enough points to win.

Some of the blame also falls on the offensive play calling. To have the MOP – Oliveira- this far down two of the following lists should be embarrassing. I am done with the argument that teams are talking the Bombers out of running the ball, or that Oliveira does not have many rushing touchdowns because Streveler is getting them. He is not. Streveler and Oliveira are tied for 3 rushing touchdowns.

The Bombers are in some serious trouble offensively, even if Collaros can play again this year…and that is a big “if”.

Maybe it looks good that Demski is in the top 10 in both categories…but that should actually be troubling as he is the only Bomber player in the top 10. Where are the big name receivers that the Bomber have? To find the next Bomber in receiving yards you have to go all the way to the 17th spot to find Wheatfall, and then to the 34th spot to find Oliveira!
In terms of receiving touchdowns, sure Demski is in 2nd place, but what spot do you find the next Bomber listed at? You have to go way down to 17th spot to find Sterns, who has 4 touchdowns, and then 22nd spot for Wheatfall with 3 receiving touchdowns. Then you have to go all the way down to 36th place to find the next Bomber on that list, a guy who has missed most of the season, Schoen, with 2 receiving. touchdowns.
The Bombers are neither getting it done on the ground, nor in the air! If that were not bad enough, they are also leading the league in turnovers with 34. Maybe Kyle Walters was right in not being sure about their roster for 2025. They lost a lot of talent.
“It was a different year, rather than just going after and signing our high-end starters back and paying them and filling the rest with rookies,” he said. “I think it will be a more competitive camp with guys that have played in the CFL. Only time will tell, but I do like our roster.”
Well, I would say time has spoken and not in a favourable way for the Bombers. When the Bombers were 3-0 I said, “Trust the process.” Forgive me if I am not so trusting of the process now! The Bombers are barley holding on to 3rd place – the only saving grace they have right now is that they have the season series over BC. But the Bombers released quarterbacks early on, and now even Collaros’ health and ability to play are a huge question mark!
Some say that if the Bomber has any chance of making some noise in the year they host the Grey Cup then Zach must play. I disagree and think the last couple of post seasons have shown that is not the case. I say, if the Bombers want to make any noise in the post season they should hope for a healthy Collaros…and find another capable quarterback. Because whoever the Bombers have behind Collaros right now are not winning the Bombers games in the post-season, and very likely not in the rest of the regular season. I simply do not fathom for a moment that another team is going to come to Winnipeg’s rescue and trade them a quarterback…so the Bombers better stat looking under every rock

Zack is not what he was 2 years ago. Last year he started 17 games & had 17 TD’s vs 15 INTERCEPTIONS. Take away the 6 TD’s, 0 Interceptions vs the Elks & you have 11 TD’s 15 interceptions in his other 16 starts. That’s mediocre output. This year he has had 6 games of multiple interceptions in 10 starts & leads the league in pick 6’s. Part of it is the OL but he has a reputation for throwing bad balls.
The Bombers have the worst QB in the West. Worse, Streveler is not a viable backup option IMO.
