Tiger-Cats re-sign defensive lineman Ted Laurent and release defensive back, Cariel Brooks

The Tiger-Cats have announced that they re-signed National defensive lineman Ted Laurent and released American defensive back Cariel Brooks. The 35-year-old Laurent is an 11-year CFL veteran with eight seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Cariel Brooks is a five-year CFL veteran that spent five seasons in the Tiger-Cat’s defensive backfield.


Laurent is a 6’1″, 299-pound defensive lineman that contributed in 17 regular seasons and one playoff game with the Tiger-Cats during the 2022 season. During the 2022 season, he produced nine tackles for loss, two sacks, one batted pass, and one forced fumble. Over the last 11 seasons, Laurent has been a consistent defensive contributor that has accumulated 221 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 50 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and four batted passes. During his career, Laurent has been named a CFL All-Star two times and has built a hall-of-fame career.


The Tiger-Cats have released Cariel Brooks after playing with the Hamilton defensive backfield for the last five seasons. The 5’10”, 200-pound Brooks battled injuries during the 2022 season but still played in 12 games and a playoff game for Hamilton. During the 2022 season, Brooks produced 35 tackles, and for his career with the Tiger-Cats, he has made 207 tackles, two sacks, 12 interceptions, and five forced fumbles.
